The cost of living is getting higher, Australians are abandoning cars in droves and using bicycles
HOLIDAY NEWS - The increasing cost of living in Australia has forced citizens of the Kangaroo country to switch to using bicycles for daily transportation instead of using cars. This is one way to reduce household expenses amidst the ever-increasing cost of living crisis.
Launching Drive, Monday (7/10/2024), Bicycle Network data shows the number of residents in Victoria who use bicycles to travel has increased by around 4% and 6% nationally.
The move by Australians to abandon cars and choose bicycles is a step to save costs. This is also supported by a 2023 survey from the Climate Council of Australia, which shows 71% of Australians must look for ways to reduce transportation costs due to rising fuel prices.
For example, fuel prices at several petrol stations in Sydney will reach their highest prices in 2024.
The latest analysis from the National Roads and Motorists Association (NRMA), shows that the average price of fuel in Sydney will reach 2.18 Australian dollars or IDR 21,500 per liter in September 2024.
Australian Automobile Association (AAA) data for the second quarter of 2024 reveals that a family consisting of a couple with two children will spend around 459 Australian dollars or around IDR 5 million every week for car operating costs, credit installments and fuel. In fact, fuel accounts for more than two-thirds.
In the same period in 2023, the average expenditure for car operations will be 415 Australian dollars or IDR 4.4 million, which shows that the cost of owning a car has become more expensive than last year.

Currently, households in Australia's big cities spend around 17% of their income on transportation or around 434.77 Australian dollars or IDR 4.6 million per week. Meanwhile, families in rural areas allocate 15.4% of their income to transportation costs.
Apart from fuel, other costs related to cars include credit installments, insurance, service, tires and vehicle registration.
Apart from that, new car sales also fell for two consecutive months and were the largest in the last two years.
According to the latest data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industry (FCAI), new vehicle sales in Australia last month were recorded at 99,881 units, down 9.8% from sales in September 2023.

Selain bahan bakar, biaya lain yang terkait dengan mobil termasuk cicilan kredit, asuransi, servis, ban, dan registrasi kendaraan.
Selain itu, penjualan mobil baru juga turun dalam dua bulan berturut-turut dan jadi yang terbesar dalam dua tahun terakhir.
Menurut data terbaru Kamar Industri Otomotif Federal (FCAI), penjualan kendaraan baru di Australia pada bulan lalu tercatat sebanyak 99.881 unit, turun 9,8% dari penjualan pada September 2023.
