HOLIDAY NEWS - The flagship program of President-Elect Prabowo Subianto's government, namely Free Nutritious Meals (MBG), will certainly be provided twice a day, namely in the morning and afternoon.

This was stated by Prabowo's younger brother and CEO of Arsari Group, Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo. This condition is slightly different from the initial design of this program which was called the free lunch program.
"Here I want to clarify that some people feel that this is a free lunch. This is not a free lunch, this is a free meal twice a day, morning and afternoon," said Hashim, at an Economic Discussion event with Senior International Entrepreneurs, at Menara Kadin, Jakarta , Monday (7/10/2024).

According to Hashim, providing free food once is not enough to help overcome nutritional problems. Based on data from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) and the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (PMK), 41% of students in Indonesia are hungry while studying at school.

"Why are they hungry? Because their parents can't afford to provide breakfast. They come to school, hungry, with empty stomachs. We can now understand why our rankings in terms of education are so bad," he said. Hashim said that Indonesia itself is far behind a number of its neighboring countries in terms of education. One of them is Singapore, which is among the countries with the best education in the world. Apart from that, there are also South Korea, Finland and New Zealand.

"Indonesia is consistently among the worst in the world. We are 63 out of 70 and always remain unchanged," he said. The initial plan was that this program would only be given to school children. However, in line with preparations, Hashim said, the MBG program was expanded to target children at home and housewives. It is hoped that this can also help overcome the problem of malnutrition among Indonesian children.

The government itself plans to allocate IDR 71 trillion for the 2025 free nutritious meal program. This budget is included in the education budget in the 2025 APBN which is budgeted at IDR 722.6 trillion. One of the menus that he confirmed will be present in this program is the egg menu. Through the use of domestic products, he believes that this program is able to encourage MSME businesses to grow. In this way, the Indonesian economy will also increase.

"It is planned that every day, we will provide 82 million eggs every day. Well, I think there will definitely be Kadin members through member associations of chicken or egg traders," he said.
This free nutritious meal program targets at least 82 million recipients to receive free meals twice a day. To meet this need, Hashim said, a budget of 450 trillion is needed in the next few years.

These funds will also circulate again in the Indonesian domestic market so that they can make a major contribution to the economy. "This concerns the need for funds of IDR 450 trillion. IDR 450 trillion will be injected into the Indonesian economy," said Hashim.
