The story of the robes of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, cared for by a family for 59 generations

Prophet Muhammad SAW is a special figure in the hearts of Muslims. His peaceful teachings are still preserved to this day. When the last day comes, this last prophet and apostle can provide intercession or help for his people so that they are not sent to hell. 

The Prophet Muhammad SAW lived dozens of centuries ago for 63 years. Because of the attack by Abraha's elephant troops on Mecca, the year of his birth was called the Year of the Elephant (around 570 AD), precisely 12 Rabiul Awal. Meanwhile, Rasulullah SAW died on the same date on 11 Hijriah or 8 June 632 AD. 

However, several items left by the apostle with the title Al-Amin are still well preserved. One of these robes is now called Hırka-ı Şerif (Holy Robe). Stored in a mosque with the same name in Türkiye, it turns out there is an interesting story behind it. Read the full story below. 

Honorable mission of Uwais Al-Qarni's descendants

The Hırka-ı Şerif Mosque is located in the Fatih district which is one of the areas in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. The location is only a few kilometers from the Topkapi Museum which also stores other objects belonging to the Prophet Muhammad SAW. 

This mosque was completed in 1851 with an octagonal shape and one dome. This construction was an order from Sultan Abdulmejid I so that the prophet's robe would be protected. Now, this valuable relic is cared for by Uwais Al-Qarni's 59th descendant, Baris Samir. 

“It is an important responsibility to guard the Holy Robe. A kind of honorable mission to protect it for 59 generations. "Offering one million visitors the opportunity to see it is a source of joy for us and we hope to reach more visitors to come this year," said Samir in 2017, quoted from dailysabah.com.

Nabi Muhammad SAW merupakan sosok istimewa di hati umat Islam. Ajaran-ajarannya yang penuh kedamaian masih terjaga hingga hari ini. Saat hari akhir kelak, nabi dan rasul yang terakhir ini dapat memberikan syafaat atau pertolongan untuk para umatnya agar tidak dimasukkan ke neraka.

Nabi Muhammad SAW memang hidup belasan abad yang lalu selama 63 tahun. Karena serangan pasukan gajah Abrahah ke Mekkah, tahun kelahirannya disebut Tahun Gajah (sekitar 570 M) tepatnya 12 Rabiul Awal. Sementara itu, Rasulullah SAW wafat di tanggal yang sama pada tahun 11 Hijriah atau 8 Juni 632 M.

Misi terhormat keturunan Uwais Al-Qarni

Masjid Hırka-ı Şerif terletak di distrik Fatih yang merupakan salah satu wilayah di Kota Istanbul, Turki. Lokasinya hanya berjarak beberapa kilometer saja dari Museum Topkapi yang juga menyimpan benda milik Nabi Muhammad SAW lainnya. 

Masjid ini selesai dibangun pada 1851 dengan bentuk segi delapan dan satu kubah. Pembangunan ini merupakan perintah Sultan Abdulmejid I agar jubah sang nabi terlindungi. Kini, peninggalan berharga tersebut dirawat oleh keturunan ke-59 Uwais Al-Qarni, Baris Samir. 

“Ini adalah tanggung jawab penting untuk menjaga Jubah Suci. Semacam misi terhormat untuk melindunginya hingga 59 generasi. Menawarkan kesempatan kepada satu juta pengunjung untuk melihatnya adalah sumber kebahagiaan kami dan kami berharap bisa menjangkau lebih banyak pengunjung untuk datang tahun ini,” ucap Samir pada 2017, dikutip dari dailysabah.com.
