HOLIDAY NEWS -- Google plans to remove many Android apps from the Play Store starting next month. Check out the reasons.
The technology giant from the United States requires a number of application providers to provide a 'stable, attractive and responsive user experience' starting August 31. Google will immediately remove applications that do not meet these 'minimum requirements' from the Play Store.
According to The Verge, the company's latest spam policy update, apps that show "limited functionality and content" will no longer be allowed on the Play Store starting August 31.
"We updated our Spam and Minimum Functionality policies to ensure apps meet the enhanced standards for the Play catalog and engage users through quality functionality and content user experience," Google said on its help page, reported Tuesday(23/7).
Apps that could potentially be removed such as text-only apps, single wallpaper apps, or apps that are literally designed to do nothing. This provision complements the previous rules which prohibit applications that are damaged and unresponsive, cannot be installed, crash, or function abnormally.
Google said it added the additional requirements to "ensure apps can meet the enhanced standards for the Play catalog and engage users through quality functionality."
Google has made previous efforts to better police apps hosted on the Play Store. As noted by Android Authority, as many as 2.28 million apps will be banned from the service in 2023 for violating policies and endangering user security.
Google also said that it had banned 333,000 "bad" Google Play accounts that same year due to repeated policy violations and concerns around fraud and malware.

Raksasa teknologi asal Amerika Serikat itu mewajibkan sejumlah penyedia aplikasi untuk menghadirkan 'pengalaman pengguna yang stabil, menarik, dan responsif' mulai tanggal 31 Agustus. Google bakal segera menghapus aplikasi yang tidak memenuhi 'syarat minimal' tersebut dari Play Store.
Melansir The Verge, pembaruan kebijakan spam terbaru dari perusahaan, aplikasi yang menunjukkan "fungsionalitas dan konten yang terbatas" tidak akan diizinkan lagi di Play Store mulai 31 Agustus.
"Kami memperbarui kebijakan Spam dan Fungsionalitas Minimum untuk memastikan aplikasi memenuhi standar yang telah ditingkatkan untuk katalog Play dan melibatkan pengguna melalui fungsionalitas yang berkualitas dan pengalaman pengguna konten," kata Google dalam laman bantuannya, dilansir Selasa (23/7).
Aplikasi-aplikasi yang berpotensi dihapus seperti aplikasi yang hanya berisi teks, aplikasi wallpaper tunggal, atau aplikasi yang secara harfiah didesain untuk tidak melakukan apapun.
Ketentuan ini melengkapi aturan sebelumnya yang melarang aplikasi rusak dan tidak responsif, tidak bisa diinstal, macet, atau berfungsi tidak normal.
Google mengatakan mereka menambahkan persyaratan tambahan untuk "memastikan aplikasi dapat memenuhi standar yang telah ditingkatkan untuk katalog Play dan melibatkan pengguna melalui fungsionalitas yang berkualitas."
Google telah melakukan upaya sebelumnya untuk mengawasi aplikasi yang di-hosting di Play Store dengan lebih baik. Seperti yang dicatat oleh Android Authority, sebanyak 2,28 juta aplikasi diblokir dari layanan ini pada tahun 2023 karena melanggar kebijakan dan membahayakan keamanan pengguna.
Google juga mengatakan bahwa mereka telah memblokir 333.000 akun Google Play yang "buruk" pada tahun yang sama karena pelanggaran kebijakan yang berulang kali terjadi dan kekhawatiran seputar penipuan dan malware.
