Anjihai Grand Canyon, Xinjiang China

The Anjihai Grand Canyon, also known as the Hongsha (Red Mountain) Grand Canyon, lies in the northern foothills of the Tiashan Mountains like a colorful ribbon.
It is a spectacular natural wonder composed of steep cliffs, irregular rocks and brightly colored stones.

The canyon is approximately 300 km long and up to 400 m deep.
For hundreds of thousands of years, rivers have flowed across the plain, forming this fascinating canyon.

The water washes and dissolves layers of earth, leaving colored traces on the surface.

What a wonderful Canyon! I just want to add some information about the composition and time formation of the colorful bands of the Anjihai Grand Canyon, in Xinjiang, China. Northern Xinjiang in Northwest China, also known as the Xinjiang Central Asian Orogenic Belt (XCAOB), is an important part of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). It is a Paleozoic accretionary orogenic belt, comprising an accretionary collage of island arcs and continental fragments.

Northern Xinjiang hosts an enormous and complex Paleozoic to Mesozoic metallogenic belt and is characterized by Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Au, Fe, Mo, W, and rare metal (Li, Be, Nb, Ta, Rb) deposits. Some deposits are large and superlarge including the well-known Keketuohai rare metal, Ashele Cu–Zn, Keketale Pb–Zn, Axi Au, Katebasu Au–Cu, Huangshan Cu–Ni, Tuwu Cu–Au, Donggebi Mo, Shadong W, and Zhibo Fe deposits. Different orogenic belts exhibit distinct ore-forming characteristics. For example, the Altay mainly contains pegmatite rare metal deposits and submarine volcanism-related Fe, Cu, Pb and Zn deposits; Junggar largely includes orogenic Au, porphyry Cu, and skarn Mo deposits; East Tianshan primarily contains magmatic Cu–Ni, skarn W and Fe, porphyry Cu and Mo deposits, and West Tianshan mainly includes submarine volcanism-related Fe, epithermal, and orogenic Au deposits. These different deposits, in nature and concentration, give to Anjihai Grand Canyon its wonderfully colorful bands.
