YouTube is the most visited social media application

- A marketing research company Lifeshigth.io, named YouTube as the top social media platform based on the number of user visits throughout 2023.
In 2023, this video streaming provider will record 1.35 trillion visits. This figure is up 80.49% from 263.3 billion visits on YouTube in 2019. At 67%, the majority of YouTube visitors are male and nearly 70% watch YouTube videos on their mobile devices.
One of Apple's iconic advertising videos showing its first iPhone ad released in 2007, shows YouTube as one of the applications pre-installed on iOS up to iOS 6.

The ad suggests that at that time, it was still not common for cellphones to have a YouTube application. The ad features a bulldog on a skateboard with the ad narration "Perhaps the biggest surprise is discovering YouTube on your phone."
Even though YouTube attracted the largest number of visitors to the social media platform in 2023, one of the biggest growth rates in this category over the five years from 2019-2023 was TikTok as reported by detiKINET Phone Arena.
With a stunning five-year growth rate of 6015%, the controversial social media player saw its number of visits increase from 0.7 billion in 2019 to 41.8 billion last year. TikTok is a mobile-centric site that is equally popular among men and women.
Overall, social media visits increased 70.56% worldwide over the five years from 2019 to 2023 with the number of visits increasing to 1.98 billion from 582.9 billion.
The top three countries that hosted visitors to social media platforms last year were the US with 436.1 billion visitors, then India with 171.8 billion and Brazil with 123 billion.
With a percentage of 68.65%, the majority of social media site visitors are men, leaving 31.35% for women. As many as 59.10% prefer to visit these sites using their mobile devices.
