- The government through the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) has asked internet service providers to cut off internet access related to online gambling.

This is stated in letter number B-1678/M.KOMINFO/PI.02.02/06/2024 which was signed by the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) as Daily Chair of the Online Gambling Task Force (Satgas), Budi Arie Setiadi, on June 21 2024.

In a letter addressed to telecommunications service providers for internet access gateway services or network access points (NAP), the government requested that internet access related to online gambling to and from Cambodia and Davao, the Philippines, be cut off.

"Cutting off access to internet communication lines that are suspected of being used for online gambling, especially to and from Cambodia and Davao, the Philippines, within 3 x 24 hours (working days) of this letter being signed," reads point a of the letter, quoted by Kompas.com, Sunday,(23/6/2024).

In this letter, the Government conveys the reasons and legal basis for asking internet service providers to cut off internet access for those involved in online gambling.

One of them is following up on the results of the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force meeting chaired by the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto as Chair of the Task Force on June 19 2024.
In this letter it is also stated that the period for terminating Internet access is enforced with continuous evaluation. This termination of access will end when it is deemed conducive.
"The period of termination of access will be evaluated to be immediately restored if the situation is conducive," said point b of the letter.

The government also asked internet service providers to report steps for disconnection actions and the results of their implementation for evaluation and follow-up.
