HOW TO RESPOND TO HISTORICAL WRITINGS
History is not an exact science. This means that the writing of history in existing history books, especially those that have been published for a long time, can develop and even conflict with new books that are published as new evidence is discovered.
As an example :
In the past, as written by Sulendaraningrat in his book History of Cirebon, Geusan Ulun was a student of Panembahan Ratu, So the King of Sumedang. When he took Harisbaya away, he was said to be studying in Cirebon.
Now, based on several research results collected by one of the historians (Yosef Iskandar), it is not that Geusan Ulun brought Kabur Harisbaya when he was studying at Panembahan Ratu, because he was the same age. The King of Sumedang took Harisbaya away when he stopped by Cirebon after returning from Pajang.
Example Two:
The Mataram poet (author of Babad Tanah Jawi) previously recorded that Majapahit collapsed after Raden Fatah invaded Majapahit and overthrew his father, who at that time was King of Majapahit.
Now, based on new findings, even when Raden Fatah died Majapahit was still standing, because Majapahit collapsed in 1527. Majapahit collapsed under Sultan Trenggono.
So that's history. Manuscripts, books, inscriptions that are used as historical sources are not necessarily true. Never mind one book with another, even inscriptions sometimes have conflicting contents, namely differences in how they report history, historical figures and other things related to history.
The notes are; "that as long as it is made by humans, including writing history, the possibility of error exists."
