Ken Arok, The Curse Keris Mpu Gandring and Collapse Singosari
Singasari Kingdom

The Singasari Kingdom or Tumapel Kingdom, was a Hindu-Buddhist kingdom in East Java, between 1222–1292 which was founded by Sri Ranggah Rajasa or commonly called Ken Arok. The history of this kingdom is closely related to the figure of Ken Angrok (1222–1227) who was the founder of the Rajasa dynasty and the Tumapel kingdom. The location of the center of this kingdom is now estimated to be in the Singasari District, Malang Regency, East Java Province.

The origins of the Keris Mpu Gandring and its curse

Keris Mpu Gandring is a famous heirloom weapon in the history of the founding of the Singhasari Kingdom in the Malang area, East Java today. This keris is famous for its curse which claimed victims of the Singasari elite, including its founder and user, Ken Arok.

Ken Arok, the adopted son of Bango Samparan, came to Mpu Gandring to ask for a keris to be made within 5 months. Bango is a close friend of Mpu Gandring

Initially Mpu Gandring refused, but because Ken Arok continued to pressure him, he finally agreed to this time.
After 5 months had passed, Ken Arok returned to Mpu Gandring to pick up the keris he had ordered.

At that time Mpu Gandring was still working on the keris and Ken Arok took the keris to look at it, but was surprised by its shape which was not worthy of being called a keris.
"Seeing that the results were not according to his wishes, Ken Arok became angry with Mpu Gandring and stabbed him with the keris.

Mpu Gandring, who was very close to the end of his life, cursed Ken Arok that his descendants would be killed by the keris, with victims reaching seven people.

Since then, Mpu Gandring's curse in the keris he made has always accompanied the journey of the Singasari Kingdom, even until the collapse of the kingdom.

The collapse of Singasari

Ken Arok died with his own keris as the truth of Mpu Gandring's curse. Ken Arok was killed by his son ANGKAUL Ametung as a form of revenge.

The collapse of the Singasari Kingdom began with the conflict between King Kertanegara and Jayakatwang and Arya Wiraraja. Jayakatwang, who was a descendant of the King of Kediri, fought against the Singasari Kingdom because he wanted to re-establish the Kediri Kingdom. 1292 the collapse of the Singasari kingdom.
