After Being Sued, Incognito Mode Warning in Google Chrome Changed!
Around the end of December 2023, it was reported that Google planned to settle a lawsuit that arose regarding user data when browsing in incognito mode in Google Chrome.
So, let's discuss a little, as reported by Neowin, the lawsuit was filed by US citizens William Byatt, Chasom Brown, and Maria Nguyen, where they highlighted concerns about Google's alleged collection of user data while browsing in private mode, which of course violates the law. telephone tapping or wiretap laws in the US.
The matter was then taken to the US court in the Northern District of California after which Google made several attempts to defend its case against paying $5 billionUSD. Like a past example in 2021 where Google tried to clarify that it was telling users that their browsing data might still be visible on any website the user visited.
Long story short, in a filing on Tuesday, December 26 2023, it was stated that Google had agreed to settle the lawsuit where changes would begin to be introduced in Incognito Google Chrome in the next few weeks.
These changes will appear in the incognito mode warning message, where currently the message reads:
Now you can browse privately, and other people who use this device won't see your activity. However, downloads, bookmarks and reading list items will be saved.
However, if you have used the latest Google Chrome Canary, the warning message will read:
Others who use this device won't see your activity, so you can browse more privately. This won't change how data is collected by websites you visit and the services they use, including Google. Downloads, bookmarks and reading list items will be saved.
This new message certainly looks much more explicit so that users will not be confused about what is being protected when using Incognito mode.
Now, even though there are these changes, it doesn't mean that we have really disappeared and are unknown to others by using incognito mode because after all our data is still stored by the sites we visit.

Nah kita bahas sedikit, dilansir dari Neowin, Gugatan tersebut diajukan oleh warga AS William Byatt, Chasom Brown, dan Maria Nguyen, dimana mereka menyoroti kekhawatiran adanya dugaan pengumpulan data pengguna Google saat sedang menjelajah dalam mode private dimana itu tentu melanggar undang-undang penyadapan telepon atau wiretap laws di AS.
Masalah ini kemudian dibawa ke pengadilan AS di Distrik Utara California setelah itu Google melakukan beberapa upaya untuk mempertahankan kasusnya agar tidak membayar $5 miliarUSD. Pesan baru ini tentunya terlihat jauh lebih eksplisit sehingga pengguna tidak akan bingung tentang apa yang dilindungi saat menggunakan mode Incognito.
Nah meskipun dengan adanya perubahan tersebut, bukan berarti bahwa kita benar benar telah hilang dan tidak diketahui orang lain dengan menggunakan mode incognito karena bagaimanapun data kita tentu masih tersimpan oleh situs yang kita kunjungi.
