- Google is proven to be practicing monopoly in the Android application distribution market. The lawsuit was filed by Epic Games, maker of the game Fortnite.

Reporting from Reuters on Tuesday (12/12/2023), Epic Games accused Google of hurting competitor Play, its application store. The technology giant is also accused of carrying out illegal monopoly practices.
For example, Google bundles Play with its billing service. As a result, application developers find it difficult to use other billing services.

Apart from that, Google also charges exorbitant fees of up to 30% to application developers.
"This ruling proves that the practices of Google's app store are illegal," Epic Games said in a statement on its website.
"They abuse their monopoly to set exorbitant rates, stifle competition, and reduce innovation," explained Epic Games.

Google said it would appeal. The trial had been going on for about a month before a federal court jury reached its decision this week.

"We will continue to maintain our business model and remain deeply committed to our users, partners and the broader Android ecosystem," said Wilson White, vice president of government affairs and public policy at Google, in an emailed statement.
If the appeal fails, Google may be forced to allow more app stores on Android devices and lose revenue from in-app purchase fees. (WHY)

Google terbukti melakukan praktik monopoli di pasar distribusi aplikasi android. Gugatan dilayangkan Epic Games, pembuat gim Fortnite.

(WHY)
