When Erdogan took Jokowi's hand and the Palestinian president hugged him tightly
SAUDI ARABIA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attended the Extraordinary High Level Conference (Summit) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) which was held at the King Abdulaziz International Convention Center (KAICC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Saturday (11/11/2023 ).
The meeting specifically discussed Israel's military aggression against Palestine. Dozens of heads of state and heads of government from Muslim-majority countries attended the meeting. Including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
From the video on Youtube of the Presidential Palace it appears that Jokowi is walking together with Erdogan, holding hands. Erdogan didn't seem to want to let go and continued to hold Jokowi's hand,
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi was seen accompanying Jokowi. It is not yet known what they discussed, but what is clear is that Indonesia and Turkey are two countries with majority Islamic populations that strongly condemn the Israeli occupation.
Jokowi Hugs Palestinian PM
In another photo, Jokowi is seen embracing and hugging the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas. The hug expressed Jokowi's deep sympathy for the Israeli occupation.
President Jokowi embraced and shook hands with Abbas as a form of concern over Israel's attack on Palestine. "During the short meeting, President Jokowi embraced President Mahmoud Abbas while expressing his deep concern about the events taking place in Palestine," read the photo caption released by the Presidential Secretariat. Apart from Abbas, the Head of State also shook hands and took photos with all the leaders of the OIC member countries.
Meanwhile, the OIC Extraordinary Summit was held to respond to the crisis situation in Gaza due to the Israeli attack.
President Jokowi said that the OIC Extraordinary Summit was very important as an additional effort to help stop Israel's attack on Palestine.
Jokowi's urge
On that occasion, Jokowi declared that the heinous acts against the Palestinian people violated international law and human values.
Jokowi also urged violence in the Gaza Strip and West Bank to stop immediately.
"Indonesia is committed to supporting Palestine in an optimal and concrete manner. The violence must stop immediately. The forced displacement of civilians must end and humanitarian regulations must be provided immediately," said Jokowi.
"This heinous act is a serious violation of international law and humanitarian values," he continued.
The OIC Extraordinary Summit was held in response to the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip which have been ongoing since 7 October.
Israel's attack on Gaza has killed 11,078 people, of whom 4,506 are children.
Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia strongly condemns Israel's atrocities against the Palestinian people.
According to him, there is no reason that can justify the mass murder and expulsion of the Palestinian people.
Jokowi also emphasized that Indonesia is committed to fully supporting Palestine in an optimal and concrete manner.
Indonesia itself has sent humanitarian aid to Gaza. After undergoing a conference in Riyadh, Jokowi is scheduled to go to Washington, United States (US) to meet with Joe Biden.
Jokowi is said to be discussing the situation in Gaza with the leader of Israel's most important ally.
"This visit is also a good opportunity to directly convey the results of the OIC Summit in Riyadh which reflects the solidarity of the OIC countries to defend justice and humanity," said Jokowi as quoted on the official website of the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat. From the OIC Summit in Riyadh, President Jokowi is scheduled to continue his trip to Washington DC, United States (US) on November 12.
According to Jokowi, this visit is a good opportunity to voice Indonesia's firm position regarding Gaza to US President Joe Biden. "This visit is also a good opportunity to directly convey the results of the OIC Summit in Riyadh which reflects the solidarity of OIC countries to defend justice and humanity," said Jokowi.
Saat Erdogan Gandeng Tangan Jokowi dan Dipeluk Erat Presiden Palestina
ARAB SAUDI - Presiden RI Joko Widodo (Jokowi) menghadiri Konferensi Tingkat Tinggi (KTT) Luar Biasa Organisasi Kerja Sama Islam (OKI) yang digelar di King Abdulaziz International Convention Center (KAICC), Riyadh, Arab Saudi, Sabtu (11/11/2023).
Pertemuan itu khusus membahas soal agresi militer Israel ke tanah Palestina.
Puluhan kepala negara dan kepala pemerintahan negara-negara berpenduduk mayoritas Islam hadir dalam pertemuan itu.
Termasuk Presiden Turki Recep Tayyip Erdogan dan Presiden Otoritas Palestina, Mahmoud Abbas.
Dari video di Youtube Istana Presiden tampak Jokowi berjalan bersama dengan Erdogan sambil bergandengan tangan.
Erdogan tampak tak mau melepas dan terus menggandeng tangan Jokowi,
Menlu RI Retno Marsudi terlihat mendampingi Jokowi.
Belum diketahui apa yang mereka bicarakan namun yang jelas Indonesia dan Turki merupakan dua negara berpenduduk Islam mayoritas yang sangat mengecam pendudukan Israel.
Jokowi Peluk PM Palestina
Pada foto lain, Jokowi tampak merangkul dan memeluk Presiden Otoritas Palestina, Mahmoud Abbas.
Pelukan itu sebagai rasa simpati mendalam Jokowi atas pendudukan Israel.
Presiden Jokowi sempat merangkul dan bersalaman dengan Abbas sebagai bentuk keprihatinan atas serangan Israel ke Palestina.
"Dalam pertemuan singkat itu, Presiden Jokowi merangkul Presiden Mahmoud Abbas seraya menyampaikan keprihatinan yang mendalam atas peristiwa yang terjadi di Palestina," tulis keterangan foto yang dirilis Sekretariat Presiden.
Selain Abbas, Kepala Negara juga bersalaman dan berfoto bersama dengan seluruh pemimpin negara-negara anggota OKI.
Adapun, KTT Luar Biasa OKI ini digelar untuk merespons situasi krisis di Gaza akibat serangan Israel.
Presiden Jokowi menyampaikan bahwa KTT Luar Biasa OKI sangat penting sebagai upaya tambahan untuk membantu menghentikan serangan Israel ke Palestina.
Desakan Jokowi
Pada kesempatan itu, Jokowi menyatakan bahwa tindakan keji terhadap masyarakat Palestina melanggar hukum internasional dan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan.
Jokowi pun mendesak kekerasan di Jalur Gaza dan Tepi Barat segera dihentikan.
"Indonesia berkomitmen mendukung Palestina secara optimal dan konkret. Kekerasan harus segera dihentikan. Pemindahan paksa warga sipil harus diakhiri dan aturan kemanusiaan harus segera diberikan," kata Jokowi.
"Tindakan keji ini adalah pelanggaran serius terhadap hukum internasional dan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan," lanjutnya.
KTT Luar Biasa OKI digelar menanggapi serangan Israel ke Jalur Gaza yang terus berlangsung sejak 7 Oktober lalu.
Serangan Israel ke Gaza telah membunuh 11.078 jiwa, sebanhyak 4.506 di antaranya adalah anak-anak.
Jokowi menegaskan, Indonesia mengecam keras kekejaman Israel terhadap bangsa Palestina.
Menurutnya, tidak ada alasan yang bisa membenarkan pembunuhan massal dan pengusiran masyarakat Paelstina.
Jokowi pun menegaskan, Indonesia berkomitmen mendukung penuh Palestina secara optimal dan konkret.
Indonesia sendiri telah mengirimkan bantuan kemanusiaan ke Gaza.
Setelah menjalani konferensi di Riyadh, Jokowi dijadwalkan bertolak ke Washington, Amerika Serikat (AS) untuk bertemu dengan Joe Biden.
Jokowi disebut akan membicarakan situasi Gaza dengan pemimpin sekutu terpenting Israel tersebut.
"Kunjungan ini juga merupakan kesempatan baik untuk langsung menyampaikan hasil KTT OKI di Riyadh yang mencerminkan solidaritas negara-negara OKI untuk membela keadilan dan kemanusiaan," kata Jokowi dikutip laman resmi Sekretariat Kabinet RI.
Dari KTT OKI di Riyadh, Presiden Jokowi dijadwalkan akan melanjutkan perjalanan ke Washington DC, Amerika Serikat (AS) pada tanggal 12 November.
Menurut Jokowi, kunjungan ini merupakan kesempatan baik untuk menyuarakan posisi tegas Indonesia mengenai Gaza kepada Presiden AS Joe Biden.
"Kunjungan ini juga merupakan kesempatan baik untuk langsung menyampaikan hasil KTT OKI di Riyadh yang mencerminkan solidaritas negara OKI untuk membela keadilan dan kemanusiaan," kata Jokowi.
