Mengenang Ita Martadinata, Aktivis HAM 1998 yang Dibunuh Sebelum Bersaksi di PBB
Dua puluh lima tahun setelah Reformasi 1998, kekerasan yang meliputi peristiwa itu masih membekas.
Salah satu kejahatan yang belum terselesaikan hingga sekarang adalah pemerkosaan masif terhadap perempuan Tionghoa selama kerusuhan Mei 1998.
Bahkan, salah satu saksi tragedi itu ditemukan tewas dibunuh sebelum berangkat ke Sidang Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa (PBB) di New York, AS untuk memberikan kesaksian.
Dia adalah Ita Martadinata, gadis 18 tahun yang aktif di Tim Relawan untuk Kekerasan terhadap Perempuan (TRKP). Ita ditemukan tewas di rumahnya pada 9 Oktober 1998.
Upaya pembungkaman
Kengerian pembunuhan Ita Mardinata diungkapkan oleh Ita Fatia Nadia, mantan anggota Tim Relawan Kemanusiaan (TRK), dalam wawancara dengan The Jakarta Post, 19 Mei 2021.
TRK dibentuk sebagai respons atas kerusuhan yang terjadi pada Mei 1998. Tingginya kasus pemerkosaan pada waktu itu mendorong TRK membentuk subdivisi khusus bernama TRKP.
Nadia bertugas sebagai koordinator TRKP. Dia menuturkan, relawan dari berbagai latar belakang bergabung dengan TRKP, termasuk Ita Martadinata yang seorang Buddhist.
"Saya diberitahu oleh sesama relawan bahwa dia (Ita) adalah korban pemerkosaan, meskipun dia tidak pernah memberi tahu saya," kata Nadia.
Tak lama setelah kerusuhan, TRK mempersiapkan saksi-saksi untuk memberikan kesaksian pribadi tentang pemerkosaan masif selama kerusuhan Mei 1998 di Sidang PBB di New York.
Ita mengajukan diri untuk memberikan kesaksian setelah berdiskusi dengan anggota TRK dan ibunya. Akomodasi, tiket pesawat, dan visa telah disiapkan agar Ita bisa berangkat ke Amerika Serikat.
Namun, kabar duka itu datang.

Twenty-five years after the 1998 Reformation, the violence that pervaded that event still has its mark.
One of the unresolved crimes until now is the massive rape of Chinese women during the May 1998 riots.
In fact, one of the witnesses to the tragedy was found murdered before leaving for the United Nations (UN) Session in New York, USA to give testimony.
She is Ita Martadinata, an 18 year old girl who is active in the Volunteer Team for Violence Against Women (TRKP). Ita was found dead at her home on October 9, 1998.
Silencing attempt
Ita Fatia Nadia, a former member of the Humane Volunteer Team (TRK), expressed the horror of the murder of Ita Mardinata, in an interview with The Jakarta Post, 19 May 2021.
TRK was formed as a response to the riots that occurred in May 1998. The high number of rape cases at that time prompted TRK to form a special subdivision called TRKP.
Nadia served as TRKP coordinator. He said volunteers from various backgrounds joined TRKP, including Ita Martadinata who is a Buddhist.
"I was told by a fellow volunteer that she (Ita) was a victim of rape, even though she never told me," said Nadia.
Shortly after the riots, TRK prepared witnesses to provide personal testimony about mass rape during the May 1998 riots at the United Nations Assembly in New York.
Ita volunteered to testify after discussing it with members of the TRK and her mother. Accommodation, plane tickets and visas have been prepared so Ita can leave for the United States.
However, the sad news came.
