"Today, Friday 1 November 2024, I start my new role as the Special Envoy of the United Nations (UN) Secretariat General for the very first water issue," Retno said in the upload.
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs called for water issues to become a topic discussed at the top of the global political agenda.
He also encouraged the global community to work together to ensure water can be a useful resource for everyone.
"Water is life," he said.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres appointed Retno Marsudi as his Special Envoy for water issues, a new position, on 13 September.
This appointment made Retno Marsudi the first Indonesian to be appointed as the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General.

Eks Menlu ini menyerukan agar isu air menjadi topik yang dibahas di pucuk tertinggi agenda politik global.
Ia juga mendorong komunitas global bekerja sama memastikan air dapat menjadi sumber daya yang berguna bagi semua orang.
"Air adalah nyawa," ujarnya.
Sekjen PBB, Antonio Guterres menunjuk Retno Marsudi sebagai Utusan Khususnya untuk isu air, sebuah jabatan baru, pada 13 September lalu.

Karier
Retno Marsudi pernah bekerja menjadi staf di Biro Analisa dan Evaluasi untuk kerjasama ASEAN sejak 1986.
Ia mengawali karier sebagai diplomat saat usia 30 tahun.
