History Browser Opera
Telenor, the Norwegian state-owned telecommunications company has a research project for Internet browser software called MultiTorg Opera. At that time, Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner and Geir Ivarsøy were part of the research group. Later Telenor stopped this project. But not Tetzchner and Ivarsøy. They requested permission to acquire the rights to MultiTorg Opera from Telenor.

Finally version 2.0 of the Opera browser appeared in 1996. Don't be surprised if Opera doesn't have version 1.0. This is because Opera version 1 is MultiTorg Opera, and this software was never distributed to the public.
Opera 3, which was released at the end of 1997, was the first Opera version with JavaScript support. Java support is still missing so Java Applets cannot be run.
At that time, Opera had a high rendering speed compared to other browsers. As quoted by Paul Boutin from Wired magazine, when he opened the CNN.com Web he thought he was opening an old page from the cache.

It's just that the JavaScript implementation is always the worst compared to other browsers.
From versions 4, 5 and 6 Opera added various features such as email client, ICQ (in later versions removed), Unicode support. In the 7th version, Opera used a new engine called Presto, so it was heavily rewritten. In version 8, Opera supports Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) 1.1 Tiny.
Then good news for Opera users came with version 8.5. Opera is finally free and there will be no more ad interruptions. Previously Opera was a paid browser, and the free version had advertisements in the browser. The nature of this ad-ware has received criticism from several groups considering that other browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer are able to provide quality that is not much different for free. Personal authors actually don't feel there is anything wrong with advertising or paid systems, considering that Opera is a company that must earn income. This is different from Internet Explorer which has Microsoft behind it and Firefox which has support from various Open Source parties.

As of writing this article, the latest Opera is version 11.6.1 and there is already version 12 alpha with WebGL and Opera Reader support. As a desktop browser, the author really applauds Opera's ability to be one step ahead of other competitors in providing useful features. For example the multi-tab and mouse gesture features. Apart from that, Opera has also integrated various features such as chatting on IRC and downloading with BitTorrent, so users don't need to look for add-ons any more.
Even though it may be less popular in the desktop world, Opera is rampant in the mobile world. It is proven that Opera Mini and Mobile can be found on various mobile phones and smartphones. That is the history of Opera in its development, starting from a simple small company to today being a browser company that is respected in the world.
