Many Victims of Deepfake Cases, Stop Google's CCTV 24 Hours Using This Method

HOLIDAY NEWS - Google users are faced with several dangers. Among them, deepfake cases and monitoring of user activity by the system. Google is starting to take action regarding the many deepfakes spreading on its platform. Most recently, the technology giant launched online security features to prevent wider spread. 

The feature will make it easier to remove explicit deepfake videos from Search. Videos will be prevented from appearing at the top of search results. 

After successfully requesting content removal, Google's system will filter out all explicit results in Search. Removed content will filter all similar results and remove any duplicate images. 

Google Product Manager Emma Higham explains the same concept has worked with other non-consensual images. Efforts are made with the aim of making users calmer about fake video content. 

"This protection has proven successful against other types of non-consensual images, and we are building the same capability on fake explicit images," said Higham, quoted from The Verge, Saturday (31/8/2024). 

"The efforts are designed to provide peace of mind to the public, especially if they are worried about similar content appearing in the future," he added. 

Another effort is to customize Search queries. That way it will handle higher risk queries returning explicit fake content better. 

In a previous update, Google explained that it reduced exposure to explicit images specifically searching for deepfake content by more than 70%. The company has also attempted to differentiate between real and fake explicit content. 

Deepfake videos are widely spread. Many of the victims were world figures, including the president of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and the vice president of the United States (US) Kamala Harris. 

Previously, a deepfake circulated of Joko Widodo giving a speech in Mandarin. Many people are deceived, even from the educated class, according to Deputy Minister of Communication and Information (Wamenkominfo) Nezar Patria. 

Democratic US presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, was also hit by a deepfake attack. Content has been spread that imitates his voice and seems to insult US President Joe Biden. In fact, these deepfakes were also popularized by billionaire Elon Musk. 

Many parties have raised concerns about deepfakes, especially during the election period. This is because deepfakes containing disinformation can lead public opinion and cause polarization and intolerance. 

Prevent Google Monitoring

However, on the other hand, the technology giant Google also monitors its users all the time. One possibility is that advertising content appears according to user preferences. 

Google tracking is reportedly still possible. The practice still runs even if the user has turned off location history on Google services. So how do you stop it? 

You can stop it, here's how as quoted by Cnet, Saturday (31/8/2024):

1. Open the Google.com page from either a desktop or mobile browser. 

2. Sign in to your Google account. 

3. Go to the Manage your Google Account menu. 

4. Next, in the Privacy & Personalization menu, select Manage your Data & Personalization. 

5. The Activity Controls menu will appear, then go to Manage your Activity Controls. 

6. Next you will see the Web & App Activity box, slide the toggle to turn it off. 

7. Google will display a notification ensuring the user understands what is being done by disabling the setting. Select Pause. 

Users will not see relevant ads and recommendations. But remember, stored data will not be lost. 

This method is to store information after this method is carried out. Does not apply to previously saved data.

HOLIDAY NEWS - Pengguna Google dihadapi dengan beberapa bahaya. Diantaranya, kasus deepfake dan pemantauan aktivitas pengguna oleh sistemnya. Google mulai bertindak soal banyaknya deepfake yang tersebar di platformnya. Terbaru, raksasa teknologi tersebut meluncurkan fitur keamanan online untuk mencegah penyebaran lebih luas.

Fitur akan memudahkan penghapusan video deepfake eksplisit dari Search. Video akan dicegah muncul dalam urutan teratas hasil penelusuran.

Setelah berhasil meminta penghapusan konten, sistem Google akan menyaring semua hasil eksplisit pada Search. Konten yang dihapus akan menyaring semua hasil yang serupa dan menghapus gambar duplikat apapun.

Manajer Produk Google Emma Higham menjelaskan konsep yang sama berhasil mengatasi gambar non-konsensual lain. Upaya dilakukan dengan tujuan membuat pengguna bisa lebih tenang soal konten video palsu.

"Perlindungan ini telah terbukti berhasil mengatasi jenis gambar non-konsensual lain, dan kami membangun kemampuan yang sama pada gambar eksplisit palsu," kata Higham, dikutip dari The Verge, Sabtu (31/8/2024).

"Upaya dirancang untuk memberikan ketenangan pikiran pada masyarakat, khususnya jika mereka khawatir dengan konten serupa yang akan bermunculan di masa depan," imbuhnya.

Upaya lain adalah menyesuaikan kueri Search. Dengan begitu akan menangani kueri berisiko lebih tinggi menampilkan konten palsu yang eksplisit lebih baik.

Dalam pembaruan sebelumnya, Google menjelaskan mengurangi paparan pada gambar eksplisit khusus mencari konten deepfake mencapai lebih dari 70%. Perusahaan juga telah berusaha membedakan konten eksplisit nyata dan palsu.

Video deepfake banyak tersebar. Dengan banyak korbannya adalah banyak tokoh dunia, termasuk presiden Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) dan wakil presiden Amerika Serikat (AS) Kamala Harris.

Sebelumnya, beredar deepfake Joko Widodo tengah berpidato dengan bahasa Mandarin. Banyak orang yang tertipu, bahkan dari kelas terpelajar, menurut pengakuan Wakil Menteri Komunikasi dan Informatika (Wamenkominfo) Nezar Patria.

Calon presiden AS dari Demokrat, Kamala Harris, juga kena serangan deepfake. Tersebar konten yang meniru suaranya dan seakan-akan menghina Presiden AS Joe Biden. Bahkan, deepfake tersebut turut dipopulerkan oleh miliarder Elon Musk.

Banyak pihak yang sudah menyuarakan kekhawatiran soal deepfake, terutama di masa pemilu. Pasalnya, deepfake yang berisi informasi sesat dapat menggiring opini publik, serta menyebabkan polarisasi dan intoleransi.

Cegah Pantauan Google

Namun, di sisi lain, raksasa teknologi Google ternyata juga mengawasi para penggunanya setiap waktu. Salah satu kemungkinannya adalah kemunculan konten iklan sesuai dengan preferensi pengguna.

Pelacakan Google itu dilaporkan tetap bisa dilakukan. Praktik masih berjalan meski pengguna telah mematikan riwayat lokasi pada layanan Google. Lalu bagaimana cara menghentikannya?

Anda dapat menghentikannya, berikut caranya seperti dikutip Cnet, Sabtu (31/8/2024):

1. Buka laman Google.com baik dari browser desktop atau mobile.

2. Masuk ke akun Google.

3. Masuk ke menu Manage your Google Account.

4. Berikutnya di menu Privacy & Personalization, pilih Manage your Data & Personalization.

5. Menu Activity Controls akan terlihat, selanjutnya masuk ke Manage your Activity Controls.

6. Selanjutnya akan terlihat boks Web & App Activity, geser toggle untuk mematikannya.

7. Google akan menampilkan pemberitahuan memastikan pengguna paham dengan apa yang dilakukan dengan menonaktifkan pengaturan. Pilih Pause.

Pengguna tidak akan melihat iklan dan rekomendasi yang relevan. Namun perlu ingat, data yang tersimpan tidak akan hilang.

Cara ini untuk menyimpan informasi setelah cara tersebut dilakukan. Bukan berlaku untuk data yang disimpan sebelumnya.
