- YouTube has quietly added a new policy, which allows users to request the removal of AI-generated content if the content resembles you.
“If someone has used AI to alter or create synthetic content that looks or sounds like you, you can request that that content be removed,” YouTube wrote in its new policy discovered by Engadget.
However, the company also emphasized that to be eligible for removal, the content must depict a realistically altered or synthesized version of your likeness.
In removing this content, YouTube will also consider many things, such as whether the content is made from AI or not, whether the content can be identified, and whether the content imitating one of the famous figures is involved in a criminal act or not.
The new policy falls under YouTube's privacy violations, not misleading content. The company now requires first-party claims in most cases.
The most notable exceptions are when the individual is a minor, does not have access to a computer, or is deceased.
YouTube will also give alleged violators 48 hours to follow up on the complaint. If the complaint is deleted during that time, the case is closed. If not, YouTube will review it further.
However, the company explains that this removal means removing content completely including removing individuals' names and personal information from titles, descriptions, and tags, where applicable.
