HOLIDAY NEW - Android-based phones may be easier targets for hackers and government agencies compared to iPhones. It is reported that Android users can have their cellphones hacked more easily. This was revealed in a report from 404 Media, which cited leaked documents allegedly intended for customers of Israeli digital intelligence company, Cellebrite. The privacy of cellphone users is a concern after the FBI revealed that they managed to access the cellphone belonging to Thomas Matthew Crooks, the suspect in the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump. 

However, the FBI did not reveal the type of cellphone used by the suspect, as reported by RT International.

In recent years, thousands of politicians, journalists, activists and business figures around the world have reportedly had their phones hacked with the help of an Israeli spyware program called Pegasus. This program allows hackers to read messages, view photos, track location, and even activate the camera and microphone without the phone owner's knowledge. 404 Media reports that an anonymous source sent two documents dating back to April. The documents are titled "Cellebrite iOS Support Matrix" and "Cellebrite Android Support Matrix." These documents were allegedly provided to one of Cellebrite's clients and should not have been made public.

Cellebrite is a cell phone forensics company that sells its tools to federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as other companies and service providers. According to the report, as of April 2024, Cellebrite is unable to hack a large number of modern iPhones available on the market. 

The document describes Cellebrite's ability to access devices with multiple operating system versions. Tools for hacking phones based on iOS 17.4 or later are still "In Research," which means Cellebrite's tools won't necessarily be able to unlock these phones. For iOS 17.1 to 17.3.1, this company can access the iPhone XR and iPhone 11 series released in 2018 and 2019. Other documents focus on Android-based devices, showing that Cellebrite can hack most of them. However, Google Pixel 6, 7, or 8 phones remain inaccessible when turned off. 

Cellebrite confirmed the authenticity of the documents in an emailed statement. The company's senior director of communications and corporate content, Victor Ryan Cooper, said that it does not advertise updates publicly to prevent the information from being used by criminals. With this information, Android phone users should be more alert to possible hacks. Using security apps and keeping your phone's software up to date can help reduce these risks. However, special attention is still required because the risk of hacking still exists and could threaten user privacy at any time.

Hal ini terungkap dalam laporan dari 404 Media, yang mengutip dokumen bocoran diduga ditujukan untuk pelanggan perusahaan intelijen digital Israel, Cellebrite.

Privasi pengguna ponsel menjadi perhatian setelah FBI mengungkapkan bahwa mereka berhasil mengakses ponsel milik Thomas Matthew Crooks, tersangka dalam upaya pembunuhan mantan Presiden AS Donald Trump.

Namun, FBI tidak mengungkapkan jenis ponsel yang digunakan oleh tersangka, seperti dilansir dari RT International.

404 Media melaporkan bahwa sumber anonim mengirim dua dokumen yang berasal dari bulan April. Dokumen tersebut berjudul "Cellebrite iOS Support Matrix" dan "Cellebrite Android Support Matrix." Dokumen-dokumen ini diduga diberikan kepada salah satu klien Cellebrite dan seharusnya tidak dipublikasikan.

Menggunakan aplikasi keamanan dan selalu memperbarui perangkat lunak ponsel dapat membantu mengurangi risiko tersebut.
