Google SEO Secret Recipe Revealed through Leaked Documents
- The giant technology company, Google, has confirmed the authenticity of around 2,500 of its internal documents which this week were reportedly leaked via Github. The leaked document explains in detail how Google's search engine algorithm works.
The leak of these documents also confirms what has been predicted for years by those in the field of search engine optimization (SEO), even though Google has often denied these things.
For example, leaked documents say click-through rates can affect website rankings. It was also revealed that sub-domains have their own rankings, unlike Google which says sub-domains are considered separately from rankings.
Furthermore, according to the document, even new websites are placed in a separate “sandbox” until they rank high in searches. The age of the domain of a site can also affect search rankings.
The documents were first revealed by two SEO experts, Rand Fishkin and Mike King. The two each published preliminary analyzes of the document and its contents earlier this week.
However, it remains unclear how useful the information from the leaked documents will be. Because Google's search algorithm is always updated, it is possible that the information is out of date, or may even have never been actually used by Google.
"We caution against making false assumptions about search based on information that is out of context, outdated, or incomplete," Google spokesman Davis Thompson said in a statement.
Google states that the information they have shared is information about how search has worked in the past, while ensuring that it protects the integrity of search results from manipulation.
The online search market is dominated by Google
Google controls more than 90 percent of the online search market share. This dominance resulted in Google being the subject of a lawsuit by the US Department of Justice which accused Google of monopolisation.
Advertisements sold from Google search results are also the main contributor to the company's revenue. Last year, for example, Google was said to be able to earn revenues of up to 175 billion US dollars or around Rp. 2,840 trillion just from searches alone.
Given the huge amount of money Google earns from online searches, this has resulted in the birth of an SEO industry worth 68 billion US dollars (around IDR 1,100 trillion) which tries to outsmart or predict how the Google Search algorithm works.
Google is also said to have fought against sites that fill search results with low-quality content that is only intended to get an easy ad click.
That's the reason why Google is reluctant to openly reveal how its search algorithm operates. They are worried that if it is too transparent, criminals in cyberspace will use the information to carry out their crimes.
Publishers, blogs and other small sites that create good content actually suffer a lot. The problem of spam sites is increasingly exacerbated by content generated by AI, as compiled by KompasTekno from CNet, Sunday (2/6/2024).
