Figure world's fugitive hacker king finally revealed, this is the person
- The figure of the LockBit ransomware developer has finally been revealed. The British National Crime Agency announced the hacker's name as Dmitry Yuryevich Khoroshev (31).
The Russian citizen nicknamed LockBitSupp was dragged to court by the United States (US) Department of Justice. The agency accused several crimes of computer crimes, fraud, and extortion.
"Dmitry Khoroshev conceived, developed and managed Lockbit, the world's most prolific ransomware variant and family, enabling himself and his affiliates to wreak havoc and billions of dollars in losses on thousands of victims worldwide," said prosecutor Philip R. Sellinger, quoted by Tech Crunch, Wednesday (8/5/2024).
Operations carried out by law enforcers related to Lockbit also wanted to be stopped by LockbitSupp. Including proving that Lockbit is still active and still working.
Since several years ago, the US has been hunting LockBit and the people behind it. The State Department even announced that it would provide a reward of US$10 million for those who succeeded in capturing and convicting Khoroshev.
The local government also prohibits people from transacting with it. For example, to pay a ransom after being hacked.
Those who pay sanctioned hackers will also be punished. Namely getting large fines and prosecution.
Meanwhile, according to Europol, law enforcement has obtained 2,500 decryption keys. So it can help ransomware victims reopen their data that was encrypted by Lockbit.
