Elon Musk Prank RI: Instead of Investing, He's Selling Starlink
- Billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk came to Indonesia last Sunday (19/5/2024). However, the arrival of the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX was not to invest, but to launch the Starlink service in Indonesia.
Musk came to hand over the Starlink satellite-based internet service device to the Sumerta Kelod Community Health Center, Denpasar, Bali. This is a collaboration between Starlink and the Ministry of Health.
Musk's other agenda in Bali was to attend the World Water Forum 2024 the following day, Monday (20/5/2024). He took part in speeches and talked about water and the capabilities of solar energy.
However, there was no investment agenda at that time. At the event to give away the Starlink device, Musk only said he had a desire to invest but did not comment further.
"We will invest in Indonesia because this event is about Starlink, I think something like that [investment] will be announced at another event," said Musk. "We are very focused on Starlink [in Indonesia] because the benefits for society are very high, especially for connecting remote areas with internet services."

President Joko Widodo met with the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk, on the sidelines of the 10th World Water Forum Summit which took place at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Badung Regency, Bali Province on Monday, May 20 2024. He said it was important to connect every region in the country with internet access. This ensures that people's quality of life becomes even better.
"When you have advanced internet access, you can learn anything. You can access educational services such as MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) online, and learn what MIT people study," he stressed. At the same time, the Indonesian government is also trying to keep offering something to Musk. One of them asked to build an EV battery factory.
"We made an offer (to Elon Musk), could it be possible to build an EV battery factory here, a cathode precursor. And he will consider it," explained Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, as reported by Reuters. However, Musk was unwilling to respond to Luhut's invitation.

- Miliarder dan pengusaha Elon Musk datang ke Indonesia pada Minggu lalu (19/5/2024). Namun kedatangan CEO Tesla dan SpaceX ini bukan untuk berinvestasi, melainkan untuk meluncurkan layanan Starlink di tanah air.
Musk datang untuk menyerahkan perangkat layanan internet berbasis satelit Starlink ke Puskesmas Pembantu Sumerta Kelod, Denpasar, Bali. Ini menjadi kerja sama antara Starlink dengan Kementerian Kesehatan.
Agenda lain yang dilakukan Musk di Bali adalah menghadiri World Water Forum 2024 pada keesokan harinya Senin (20/5/2024). Dia ikut berpidato dan berbicara terkait air hingga kemampuan energi surya.
Namun tak ada agenda pemberian investasi saat itu. Saat acara pemberian perangkat Starlink, Musk hanya mengatakan punya keinginan berinvestasi namun tak berkomentar lebih lanjut.
"Kami akan berinvestasi di Indonesia karena acara ini adalah soal Starlink, saya rasa hal seperti itu [investasi] akan diumumkan di event lain," kata Musk. "Kami sangat fokus terhadap Starlink [di Indonesia] sebab keuntungannya bagi masyarakat sangat tinggi, terutama untuk menyambungkan daerah-daerah terpencil dengan layanan internet."

Dia mengatakan penting menghubungkan tiap wilayah di tanah air dengan akses internet. Dengan begitu memastikan kualitas hidup masyarakat menjadi lebih baik lagi.
"Ketika anda memiliki akses internet yang maju, anda bisa belajar apa saja. Anda bisa mengakses layanan pendidikan seperti MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) secara online, dan mempelajari apa yang dipelajari orang MIT," tegasnya.
Di saat bersamaan, pemerintah Indonesia juga berusaha tetap menawarkan sesuatu pada Musk. Salah satunya meminta membangun pabrik baterai EV.
"Kami mengajukan tawaran (ke Elon Musk), mungkinkah di sini dibangun pabrik baterai EV, prekursor katoda. Dan dia akan mempertimbangkannya," jelas Menteri Koordinator Bidang Kemaritiman dan Investasi (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, dilansir Reuters.
Namun Musk tak bersedia merespon soal ajakan Luhut itu.
