Indonesian U-23 team dreams of reaching the 2024 Paris Olympics
The Indonesian U-23 team is one step closer to realizing its dream and ambition to reach the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The victory over South Korea via a penalty shootout 11-10 in the quarter-finals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup, Friday (26/4/2024) early morning WIB, at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium, Doha, meant that "Young Garuda" only needed one another victory to appear at the biggest sporting event in the world.
In 120 minutes of battle, the two teams drew 2-2. South Korea responded to the collection of two goals by Indonesian striker, Rafael Struick, through the suicide of Indonesian defender, Komang Teguh, and Jeong Sang-bin's kick.
Next, Indonesia will have a semifinal duel against the winner of the match between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia which will take place, Friday at 21.00 WIB, at the Khalifa International Stadium, Doha. Rizky Ridho and friends will qualify directly for Paris 2024 if they can qualify for the final.
If they lose in the semifinals, Indonesia can win an automatic ticket for the final Asian spot in the match for third place.
Apart from the ambition of pursuing Olympic tickets, reaching the semifinals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup is a new historical milestone for Indonesian football. This is the highest achievement achieved by Indonesia in the official tournament of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), both for age and senior groups, since entering the new millennium.

Kemenangan atas Korea Selatan lewat drama adu penalti 11-10 di babak perempat final Piala Asia U-23 2024, Jumat (26/4/2024) dini hari WIB, di Stadion Abdullah Bin Khalifa, Doha, membuat “Garuda Muda” hanya butuh satu kemenangan lagi untuk tampil di pesta olahraga terakbar sejagat.
Pada pertarungan selama 120 menit, kedua tim bermain imbang 2-2. Koleksi dua gol penyerang Indonesia, Rafael Struick, dibalas Korsel lewat bunuh diri bek Indonesia, Komang Teguh, dan sepakan Jeong Sang-bin.
Selanjutnya, Indonesia akan menjalani duel semifinal menghadapi pemenang laga Uzbekistan kontra Arab Saudi yang akan berlangsung, Jumat pukul 21.00 WIB, di Stadion Internasional Khalifa, Doha. Rizky Ridho dan kawan-kawan akan lolos langsung ke Paris 2024 jika bisa lolos ke final.
Andai kalah di babak semifinal, Indonesia bisa merebut tiket otomatis jatah Asia terakhir pada pertandingan perebutan tempat ketiga.
Di luar ambisi mengejar tiket Olimpiade itu, capaian menembus semifinal Piala Asia U-23 2024 adalah tonggak bersejarah baru bagi sepak bola Indonesia. Hal itu adalah prestasi tertinggi yang dicapai Indonesia dalam turnamen resmi Konfederasi Sepak Bola Asia (AFC), baik untuk kelompok umur maupun senior, sejak memasuki milenium baru.
