7. Dunkirk

Dunkirk was directed by Christopher Nolan and released in 2017. Christopher Nolan also co-wrote the screenplay of the film which was adapted from the true story of the Dunkirk evacuation during World War II. Nolan chose to combine land, sea, and air scenes in this film to paint a dramatic overall picture of the Dunkirk evacuation. Dunkirk follows three different stories that take place over different periods of time: land for nine days, sea for one day, and air for one hour. The story focuses on the evacuation efforts of Allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk, France, which were trapped by German troops. On land, a group of British soldiers try to survive and find a way to leave the beach. At sea, small ships and warships sailed towards Dunkirk to rescue the trapped troops. Full Metal Jacket follows the story of a group of United States Marines during their basic training on Parris Island, South Carolina. They later served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
