- Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is a victim of DC Studios. New bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran are said to be not interested in extending Wonder Woman.
Patty Jenkins said this when she was a guest star on the Talking Pictures podcast. According to him, the two new bosses have not yet provided clarity about the future of the female superhero played by Gal Gadot.
"Yes, for now. Yes, but maybe it could easily be forever," said the director who twice worked on the Wonder Woman film.
Patty Jenkins said there wouldn't be a third film to continue the character's story: "They're not interested in showing Wonder Woman. I don't know what they are planning, so I sympathize with the enormity of the job and they have to follow their hearts and do what they have planned."
Jenkins' first Wonder Woman solo film came in 2017. It was Jenkins' first feature film after 14 years.
Monster was the last film outside the DCEU to be credited with being a financial success. The crime drama starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci generated a box office of USD 80 million, with a budget of USD 1.5 million. The film also made Theron claim the Oscar for Best Actress.
Meanwhile, the last Wonder Woman film experienced financial setbacks. There were also many harsh criticisms of the film.
DC made a major overhaul, especially by recruiting James Gunn. One of Gunn's projects is to make the Paradise Lost series, which focuses on the residents of Paradise Island, aka Themyscira, the birthplace of Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman.
A series of rumors circulated, starting from Gunn going to change the origin of Wonder Woman, to the choice of actress Elizabeth Debicki. But so far Gunn has never talked about these rumors.
