- Former CEO and Co-Founder of Google, Larry Page, secretly bought an asset in the form of an island. It is known that Larry Page has a hobby of buying islands.
In this case, he purchased an exotic 300-acre plot of land on the island of Cayo Norte, Puerto Rico. The land is reportedly surrounded by coral reefs, has white sand beaches and is a paradise for turtles, as reported by detikINET from the New York Post.
Larry bought the land in 2018 for USD 32 million or around IDR 501 billion, according to a document studied by Business Insider. He bought it in two purchasing processes.

Currently, Larry Page is known to own five islands spread throughout the world from the South Pacific to the Caribbean. He also previously bought an island in the Hans Lollik archipelago in 2014 for USD 23 million or around Rp. 359 billion.
Residents around Cayo Norte reported that they saw no signs of development on the land Larry purchased. However, they have seen helicopters on the island several times. Some reports also claim that several people were seen surfing with special boards there.
Coral conservation activists hope that Larry will not disturb the native ecosystem on Cayo Norte. According to them, Cayo Norte has very high ecological value and could be damaged if the area's ecosystem is disturbed.
This was conveyed by Mary Ann Lucking, director of Coralations, a coral conservation organization.
"Our hope is that this person (Larry) does not turn this island into an investment property that will be developed and destroyed," said Lucking.
According to him, if Cayo Norte and the nearby island of Culebra can be protected, then the existing ecosystem is ideal.

Dalam hal ini, ia membeli sebidang tanah sebesar 300 hektar yang eksotis di sebuah pulau Cayo Norte, Puerto Rico. Tanah tersebut kabarnya dikelilingi oleh terumbu karang, memiliki pantai pasir putih dan surga bagi para penyu seperti dilansir detikINET dari New York Post.
Larry membeli tanah tersebut pada 2018 dengan harga USD 32 juta atau sekitar Rp 501 miliar menurut sebuah dokumen yang didalami oleh Business Insider. Ia membelinya dalam dua kali proses pembelian.

Saat ini, Larry Page diketahui memiliki lima pulau yang tersebar di seluruh dunia mulai dari Pasifik Selatan sampai ke Karibia. Ia juga sebelumnya membeli pulau di kepulauan Hans Lollik pada 2014 dengan harga USD 23 juta atau sekitar Rp 359 miliar.
Para penduduk sekitar Cayo Norte melaporkan bahwa mereka tidak melihat tanda-tanda perkembangan di tanah yang dibeli Larry. Walau begitu, mereka telah beberapa kali melihat helikopter di pulau tersebut.
Beberapa laporan juga mengklaim bahwa terlihat beberapa orang yang berselancar dengan papan khusus di sana.
Para aktivis konservasi karang berharap agar Larry tidak mengganggu ekosistem asli di Cayo Norte. Menurut mereka, Cayo Norte memiliki nilai ekologis yang sangat tinggi dan dapat rusak jika ekosistem kawasan tersebut terganggu. Hal ini disampaikan oleh Mary Ann Lucking, direktur Coralations yang merupakan lembaga konservasi karang.
"Harapan kami adalah bahwa orang ini (Larry) tidak menjadikan pulau ini sebagai properti investasi yang akan dikembangkan dan dihancurkan," ungkap Lucking. Menurutnya, jika Cayo Norte dan pulau di dekatnya yaitu Culebra dapat dilindungi, maka ekosistem yang ada sangatlah ideal.
