Mark Zuckerberg wants to develop AGI, more sophisticated than AI!
Mark Zuckerberg – CEO of Meta – revealed that he and his company will begin to focus on developing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) which is much more sophisticated than the current Generative AI. They will devote most of their resources to research and then hopefully it can be used for general users and improve the Metaverse.
Meta is indeed one of the world's technology giants that has played an active role in boosting the rapid development of AI in recent years. Meta has produced many AI products, including generative AI, both for research purposes and to be applied to their own products and services. So, our next step will be towards the AGI era.
AGI itself is predicted to be a type of artificial intelligence that will be at the same level as humans, aka human-level intelligence. Other companies, including Elon Musk's x.ai, OpenAI and Google are also known to have started heading in that direction, after generative AI succeeded in making new breakthroughs in the world of AI by understanding language on par with humans.
Combine Two AI Teams to Build AGI
Mark Zuckeberg said that Meta would combine their two AI research teams, namely the Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team which was formed in 2013 and the GenAI team which was formed specifically to develop generative AI several years ago. Creating AGI certainly requires enormous computing resources, and Zuck admitted that Meta was ready with what they had.
It is said that by the end of this year, Meta will have an infrastructure with a capacity of around 350 thousand NVIDIA H100, NVIDIA's most advanced AI graphics card to date. Meanwhile, overall, Meta's other GPUs are calculated to reach 600 GPU units.
Mark Zuckerberg also explained about the potential for using AGI in Meta in the future, and of course one of them is to improve Metaverse which so far has not received the expected attention. Apart from that, AGI will also be made open-source so that its use will be wider even by third parties.

Mark Zuckerberg – CEO Meta – mengungkapkan bahwa dia dan perusahaannya akan mulai fokus mengembangkan Aritificial General Intelligence (AGI) yang jauh lebih canggih lagi dari Generative AI saat ini. Mereka bakal mengerahkan sebagian besar sumber dayanya untuk riset dan kemudian diharapkan dapat digunakan untuk pengguna umum serta meningkatkan Metaverse.
Meta memang menjadi salah satu raksasa teknologi dunia yang berperan aktif menggenjot perkembangan pesat AI dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Sudah banyak produk-produk AI, termasuk generative AI, yang sudah ditelurkan Meta baik untuk tujuan penelitian maupun diterapkan ke produk dan layanan mereka sendiri. Nah, langkah selanjutnya kita akan menuju era AGI.
AGI sendiri digadang-gadang merupakan jenis kecerdasan buatan yang akan setingkat dengan manusia alias human-level intelegence. Perusahaan lain, termasuk x.ai milik Elon Musk, OpenAI dan Google juga diketahui sudah mulai menuju ke arah sana, setelah generative AI sukses membuat terobosan baru di dunia AI dengan pemahaman bahasa yang setara dengan manusia.

Mark Zuckeberg mengatakan bahwa Meta bakal menggabungkan dua tim riset AI mereka, yakni tim Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) yang dibentuk sejak 2013 silam dan tim GenAI yang dibentuk khusus untuk mengembangkan generative AI beberapa tahun lalu. Membuat AGI tentu butuh sumber daya computing yang amat besar, dan Zuck mengaku Meta sudah siap dengan yang mereka miliki.
Dikatakan bahwa pada akhir tahun ini, Meta bakal memiliki infrastruktur dengan kekuatan sekitar 350 ribu NVIDIA H100, kartu grafis AI tercanggih dari NVIDIA saat ini. Sementara secara keseluruhan jika GPU lainnya yang dimiliki Meta dihitung menyentuh angka 600 unit GPU.
Mark Zuckerberg juga menjelaskan soal potensi penggunaan AGI di Meta nantinya, dan tentu saja salah satunya untuk meningkatkan Metaverse yang sejauh ini tidak mendapat atensi yang diharapkan. Selain itu, AGI juga bakal dibuat menjadi open-source sehingga pemanfaatannya bakal lebih luas oleh pihak ketiga sekalipun.
