The minimum wage is a standard determined by the government to pay workers in an area. In Indonesia, minimum wages are divided into district or city and provincial levels.
Countries around the world also have national minimum wage standards which are the standard for meeting workers' needs within a month. Reporting from Velocity Global, these are some of the countries with the highest minimum wages in the world.
Luxembourg
Luxembourg offers the highest national minimum wage of any country in the world, namely 3,169 USD (around IDR 50 million) for certified workers over 18 years of age. Meanwhile, uncertified workers from the age of 18 onwards will receive a minimum wage of 2,641 USD (around IDR 41 million).
Workers in other age ranges, namely 17 to 18 years and 15 to 17 years will receive a minimum wage of 2,113 USD (around Rp. 33.4 million) and 1,980 USD (around Rp. 31.3 million), respectively. The minimum wage itself is based on a 40-hour work week.
Australia
The national minimum wage received by workers in Australia is quite complex compared to other countries. This is due to exceptions for workers under 21 years of age, workers with disabilities that affect productivity, and workers at apprenticeship or training level.
Excluding workers with special conditions, all workers in Australia may not receive wages less than 13.44 USD per hour (around Rp. 213 thousand) or 2,258 USD per month (around Rp. 35.7 million). Even freelance workers who receive wages below this amount will receive an additional 25 percent in wages.
New Zealand

The national minimum wage per month that New Zealand workers must receive is around 2,387 USD per month (around IDR 37.8 million). However, the national minimum wage can only be obtained by workers from the age of 16. Child workers aged 15 years or under are not required to receive the national minimum wage. Meanwhile, new workers or those still in the training phase will receive a minimum wage of 1,910 USD per month (around IDR 30.2 million).
Dutch
The Dutch government adjusts the minimum wage for its citizens twice a year, namely on January 1 and July 1 each year. For the period 1 July 2023 until the next change, Dutch workers aged 21 years and over will receive a wage of 2,152 USD per month (around IDR 34.1 million) Meanwhile, workers under the age of 21 will receive a lower minimum wage. Workers between the ages of 15 and 20 will receive a minimum wage ranging from 646 USD (around IDR 10.2 million) to 1,722 USD (around IDR 27.2 million).
Ireland
Under the National Minimum Wage Act 2000, the majority of Irish workers are entitled to a minimum wage of 2,114 USD per month (approximately IDR 33.5 million). But a minimum wage of that size can only be earned by Irish workers starting from 20 years old.
Meanwhile, workers aged under 18 to 19 years will receive a wage range from 1,480 USD (around IDR 23.4 million) to 1,903 USD (around IDR 30.1 million). However, regulations in Ireland do not include an obligation for employers to provide wages to employees with relative status or workers who follow the apprenticeship system. ***

Upah minimum merupakan standar yang ditentukan oleh pemerintah untuk menggaji pekerja dalam suatu wilayah. Di Indonesia, upah minimum dibagi menjadi tingkatan kabupaten atau kota dan provinsi.
Negara-negara di dunia juga memiliki standar upah minimum nasional yang menjadi standar untuk mencukupi kebutuhan pekerja dalam waktu sebulan. Dilansir dari Velocity Global, inilah beberapa negara dengan upah minimum tertinggi di dunia.
Luksemburg
Luksemburg menawarkan upah minimum nasional tertinggi dibandingkan negara-negara lain di dunia, yakni sebesar 3.169 USD (sekitar Rp50 juta) untuk pekerja bersertifikat dengan usia di atas 18 tahun. Sementara itu, untuk pekerja tidak bersertifikat mulai usia 18 tahun dan seterusnya akan mendapat upah minimum senilai 2.641 USD (sekitar Rp41 juta). Pekerja di rentang usia lain, yakni 17 sampai 18 tahun dan 15 sampai 17 tahun akan mendapat upah minimum masing-masing sebesar 2.113 USD (sekitar Rp33,4 juta) dan 1.980 USD (sekitar Rp31,3 juta). Upah minimum itu sendiri didasarkan pada 40 jam kerja dalam seminggu.
Australia
Upah minimum nasional yang diterima oleh pekerja di Australia cukup kompleks dibandingkan negara lain. Hal ini disebabkan oleh adanya pengecualian-pengecualian bagi pekerja di bawah usia 21 tahun, pekerja dengan disabilitas yang memengaruhi produktivitas, dan pekerja di level magang atau pelatihan.
Di luar pekerja dengan kondisi spesial tersebut, semua pekerja di Australia tidak boleh menerima upah kurang dari 13,44 USD per jam (sekitar Rp213 ribu) atau 2.258 USD per bulan (sekitar Rp35,7 juta). Bahkan pekerja lepas yang menerimah upah di bawah jumlah tersebut akan menerima tambahan upah sebesar 25 persen.
Selandia Baru

Upah minimum nasional per bulan yang harus diterima oleh pekerja New Zealand adalah sekitar 2.387 USD per bulan (sekitar Rp37,8 juta). Namun, jumlah upah minimum nasional tersebut hanya bisa diperoleh oleh pekerja mulai usia 16 tahun.
Pekerja anak-anak yang berusia 15 tahun atau kurang dari itu tidak wajib menerima upah minimum nasional. Sementara itu, pekerja baru atau masih dalam tahap pelatihan akan mendapatkan upah minimum sebesar 1.910 USD per bulan (sekitar Rp30,2 juta).
Belanda
Pemerintah Belanda menyesuaikan upah minimum bagi warganya sebanyak dua kali dalam setahun, yakni pada 1 Januari dan 1 Juli setiap tahunnya. Untuk periode 1 Juli 2023 hingga perubahan yang berikutnya, pekerja Belanda berusia 21 tahun dan seterusnya akan mendapat upah sebesar 2.152 USD per bulan (sekitar Rp34,1 juta) Sementara itu, untuk pekerja di bawah usia 21 tahun akan menerima upah minimum yang lebih kecil. Untuk pekerja dengan usia antara 15 sampai 20 tahun akan menerima upah minimum dengan rentang mulai dari 646 USD (sekitar Rp 10,2 juta) hingga 1.722 USD (sekitar Rp27,2 juta).
Irlandia
Berdasarkan Undang-Undang Upah Minimum Nasional tahun 2000, mayoritas pekerja Irlandia berhak mendapatkan upah minimum sebesar 2.114 USD per bulan (sekitar Rp33,5 juta). Namun upah minimum sebesar itu hanya bisa diperoleh oleh pekerja Irlandia dengan usia mulai dari 20 tahun. Sementara itu, pekerja dengan usia di bawah 18 hingga 19 tahun akan mendapat rentang upah mulai dari 1.480 USD (sekitar Rp23,4 juta) hingga 1.903 USD (sekitar Rp30,1 juta). Meskipun begitu, peraturan di Irlandia tidak mencantumkan kewajiban bagi pengusaha untuk memberi upah kepada karyawan yang berstatus kerabat atau pekerja yang mengikuti sistem magang.***
