However, during his lifetime Sultan Qaboos did not have any children, making the next Sultan of Oman not purely his own flesh and blood.
Since the king has no children, the next Sultan of Oman was chosen by Sultan Qaboos through an envelope that he had prepared beforehand.
The name written on the envelope is the one who will ascend the throne to replace the Sultan of Oman who has died.
So who will the next Sultan of Oman be?
This strategic position fell to a man named Haitham who was his first cousin.
Not just anyone, because the man who next leads Oman is a former high-ranking state official.
A number of strategic positions have been held by Sultan Haitham, one of which was foreign minister.

Unlike the previous Sultan of Oman, Sultan Haitham is known to have four children from his marriage to Abdullah bint Ahad.
Of course, Haitham and Ahad's first child then rose to the throne or became a crown prince.

The boy named Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham was the first child, he was lucky because one day he could become the Sultan of Oman to replace his father.
"Crown prince Theyazin previously worked at the Oman Embassy in London for five years from 2014 as secretary II," explained the narrator.
It wasn't enough to just have a career there, Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham also had a career at the foreign ministry.
It is now known that the crown prince was appointed by the sultan to occupy another strategic position, namely as Minister of Culture and Sports in 2020.

Akan tetapi, selama hidupnya Sultan Qaboos tidak memiliki keturunan hingga membuat Sultan Oman berikutnya bukan murni darah dagingnya sendiri.
Berhubung sang raja tidak memiliki anak, jadilah Sultan Oman berikutnya dipilih oleh Sultan Qaboos melalui sebuah amplop yang sudah ia persiapkan sebelumnya.
Nama yang tertulis dalam amplop tersebut lah yang akan naik tahta menggantikan Sultan Oman yang telah meninggal dunia.

Posisi strategis ini jatuh kepada lelaki bernama Haitham yang merupakan sepupu pertamanya.
Bukan sembarang orang, lantaran lelaki yang memimpin Oman berikutnya merupakan mantan pejabat tinggi negara.
Sejumlah posisi strategis pernah diemban oleh Sultan Haitham, salah satunya menteri luar negeri.
“Haitham selaku sepupu pertama ditunjuk sebagai sultan dalam amplop bersegel almarhum karena Sultan Qaboos tidak memiliki keturunan,” kata narator dalam kanal YouTube SW History, dikutip Hops.ID pada Selasa, 31 Oktober 2023.

Berbeda dengan Sultan Oman sebelumnya, Sultan Haitham diketahui memiliki empat orang anak dari pernikahannya dengan Abdullah binti Ahad.
Sudah barang tentu kalau anak pertama dari Haitham dan Ahad kemudian naik derajat atau naik tahta menjadi seorang putra mahkota.

Anak lelaki yang bernama Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham merupakan anak pertama, dia beruntung lantaran kelak bisa menjadi Sultan Oman menggantikan ayahnya.
“Putra mahkota Theyazin sebelumnya kerja di Kedutaan Besar Oman di London selama lima tahun sejak tahun 2014 sebagai sekretaris II,” terang narator.
Tidak cukup berkarier di situ saja, Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham juga pernah berkarier di kementerian luar negeri.
Diketahui sekarang putra mahkota diangkat sultan untuk menduduki posisi strategis lainnya, yakni menjadi Menteri Kebudayaan dan Olahraga pada tahun 2020 yang lalu.
Lahir pada tahun 1990, diketahui kalau Theyazin telah menikah pada tahun 2021 yang lalu.
