The Creepy Mystery of the Sinking of the KRI Nanggala-402 Submarine

HOLIDAY NEWS - An Indonesian submarine, KRI Nanggala 402, was declared sunk after losing contact during a training exercise in northern Bali waters. In the process, KRI Nanggala 402 was reported missing until it was declared sunk, a number of terms that were rarely heard appeared, such as sublook, submiss, subsunk, to on eternal patrol.

What Does It Mean?

Launching Nato Standard ATP/MTP-57 The Submarine Search and Rescue Manual, published in November 2015, there are terms sublook, submiss, and subsunk in ship rescue procedures. The first procedure is called sublook, which means searching for submarines which is carried out when the submarine stops reporting and is suspected of having problems.

After searching for KRI Nanggala-402, the procedure changed to submiss. That is, the submarine lost status after the initial search yielded no results. Submiss is used when the initial search or sublook fails to ensure the safety of the submarine.

Then, after the submarine is declared sunk, it is known as a subsunk. This signal was set after authentic evidence emerged of a submerged submarine. Subsunk is used when there is a significant positive indication or it is known that the submarine has sunk.

Finally, the term "On Eternal Patrol" or in eternal patrols. A sinking submarine is given the term On Eternal Patrol or in eternal patrol, when the ship does not return. A patrol begins when the submarine leaves port, and ends when the vessel makes it back. However, when the submarine sinks, and does not make it home the patrol is immortal.

HOLIDAY NEWS - Kapal selam milik Indonesia, KRI Nanggala 402, dinyatakan tenggelam setelah hilang kontak saat melakukan latihan di utara perairan Bali. Dalam proses KRI Nanggala 402 dikabarkan hilang hingga dinyatakan tenggelam, muncul sejumlah istilah yang jarang didengar seperti sublook, submiss, subsunk, hingga on eternal patrol.

Apa Maknanya?

Melansir Nato Standar ATP/MTP-57 The Submarine Search and Rescue Manual terbitan November 2015, terdapat istilah sublook, submiss, dan subsunk dalam prosedur penyelamatan kapal.
