Menpora: President Jokowi wants JIS to be renovated according to standards



The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo revealed the desire of Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to renovate the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). Dito said that Jokowi wanted JIS to become a standardized stadium. 

"This is my plan to visit JIS in the near future, because the President also wants JIS to be renovated according to standards," said Dito at the Golkar DPP Office, Slipi, West Jakarta, Wednesday (28/6/2023).

Dito revealed a number of notes if JIS was appointed as the venue for the U-17 World Cup. According to Dito, JIS still has homework, from improving entry and exit access to the availability of parking areas. 

"Well, indeed some notes for the Jakarta International Stadium are related to doors, yes, door access, parking," he explained. 

Dito said that his party would visit JIS in the near future. Later, a number of notes will be discussed with PSSI. 

On the other hand, the Golkar politician said that JIS was not the only stadium option for the U-17 Pildun. Currently, several stadiums are being considered as venues for this international football event. 

"Essentially, we have the Manahan Solo Stadium, Bung Tomo Surabaya, there is a stadium in South Sumatra and there is GBK in Jakarta, there is also JIS, and many others. We will add this as an option for organizing the U-17, and it will definitely be discussed later. Kemenpora, PSSI, and FIFA," he explained. 

Previously, President Jokowi spoke about the U-17 World Cup event in November 2023 which has the potential to clash with the Coldplay concert. Jokowi said that stadiums in Indonesia were not only the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK).

"Yes, a solution will be found later. Our stadium is not just GBK," Jokowi said at Palmerah Market, Central Jakarta, Monday (26/6). 

Jokowi said that there are many options for stadiums in Indonesia. For example, Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), Manahan Stadium in Surakarta, to Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya. 

"There are others, there's JIS. There's in Manahan. There's in Jalak Harupat, there's a lot. There's also Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya. There are many of our stadiums that are ready," he said.
