Mahfud MD: Whatever stakes, government does not allow other countries interfere Papua KKB issue

- The actions of   Armed criminal groups in Papua have sparked world attention. However, the Indonesian government will not allow any country to interfere in the internal affairs of NKRI (Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia).

This statement was made by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, in response to the threat by KKB Papua that they would shoot dead pilot Susi Air, Philips Mark Merthens, if the government did not discuss this with KKB Papua.
The threat delivered directly by the leader of the Papuan KKB  Egianus Kogoya through this short video has now gone viral on social media.
Egianus Kogoya said that if Indonesia does not immediately discuss the hostage-taking with Papuan KKB, then the pilot Susi Air will be shot dead.

He also asked countries in the world, including New Zealand, to immediately convey to Indonesia to immediately liberate Papua as the goal of their struggle so far.
Regarding this matter, Mahfud MD said, the Papuan KKB problem is an internal problem and the Indonesian government can handle it on its own without having to involve other countries.
Mahfud MD also said that the government rejects all efforts of international interference in efforts to release the pilot, Susi, Air.
"Yes, we will handle it internally. Our policy is not to involve other countries. This is internal to us and we can do that," he said.

"Whatever the stakes are, the international community must not get in there," Mahfud said while giving directions at the Government Synergy Coordination Meeting in Maintaining Political Stability and Security for the Success of the 2024 Election at Kuningan Jakarta on Monday 29 May 2023.
He said, if the international community is allowed to the case of the Papuan KKB then the problem will spread everywhere. Can go to the United Nations, can also go anywhere,

"If that is confirmed, then it will spread to the United Nations everywhere. So, we reject any attempts at international interference offered by NGOs and so on," Mahduf MD continued.
During the question and answer session with the media crew, Mahfud also responded to the circulation of threats to kill Phillip by the KKB.
Responding to this, Mahfud said that in principle the government would save the hostage's life.
"There have been frequent threats to be killed, but our principle is that we will save the hostage's life. That's all," said Mahfud.

When asked further regarding the deadline for the threat, Mahfud said that not everything has to be discussed in public.
"Yes, let's just see the developments, dealing with things like that don't have to be discussed in public," he said.
Susi Air Pilot Threatens to Shoot
Previously it was reported, KKB Papua Leader Egianus Kogoya threatened to shoot pilot Susi Air, Philips Mark Merthens who had been held hostage for the last four months.
This threat was conveyed by the Commander of the Ndugama War Area Command III, West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB), Egianus Kogoya through a short video distributed by the TPNPB Spokesman, Sebby Sambom and obtained by Tribun-Papua.com, in Jayapura, Saturday 27 May 2023.
In the 1 minute and 11 second video, Egianus said, they gave the country two months to negotiate the release of Captain Philip Mark Mehrtens, the man from New Zealand.
"If there is no discussion, then we will shoot the pilot," said Egianus in the video.

Based on the video released by the rebel group, it appears that Captain Philip Mark Mehrtens looks thin while talking while holding the Morning Star flag.
Not only that, Captain Phillip was also surrounded by separatist members and also Egianus Kogoya who was right next to this pilot from New Zealand.
Mehrtens is seen speaking on camera, saying the separatists want countries other than Indonesia to engage in dialogue about Papuan independence.
"Other countries, if they don't talk to Indonesia within two months, they will shoot me," said Marten in the video received by Tribun-Papua.com.
Furthermore, Capt. Phillip Mark Mehrtens said, if that didn't happen in two months then they (KKB) said they would shoot him.
It is known that Captain Phillip Mark Mehrtens has been held hostage by the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB), the Egianus Kogoya group since Tuesday 7 February 2023 in the Forest of Nduga Regency, Highlands Papua until now.
Meanwhile, in the video Egianus Kogoya said loudly that Pilot Capt. Mark Mehrtens had admitted it.

"Mr. The pilot has admitted that both the state and the Indonesian state are just admitting it."
"We only gave two months, if you don't admit that from Indonesia, it means that if these two months pass, we will shoot pilot Mark Mehrtens," added Egianus.
Meanwhile, until this news was revealed, security forces and police officers in Papua could not be confirmed regarding the veracity of this widely circulated video.
Last Thursday 25 May 2023, the Head of the Papua Regional Police, Inspector General of Police Mathius Fakhiri, when asked about the progress of efforts to free the pilot Susi Air said, if his party had maximized negotiations so that the KKB released the pilot.

Fakhiri also acknowledged that various efforts were made by the TNI-Polri to rescue Susi Air Pilot Philip Mark Mehterns who was being held hostage by KKB led by Egianus Kogoya.
"I have spoken with various parties about this negotiation, including with the church which includes the Church Council and Bishops so that they can maximally negotiate with the Egianus Kogoya group," explained Fakhiri in Jayapura, Thursday 25 May 2023.
The Papuan Regional Police Chief acknowledged that, although negotiations are continuing, the Cartenz Peace Task Force is currently preparing appropriate, firm and measurable law enforcement steps.

He emphasized that negotiations could be carried out with anyone, because from the start it had been carried out with the Nduga Regional Government in collaboration with the Police Chief and Komnas HAM who had offered to help.
His party has also sent a special team to try to negotiate and facilitate all parties who want to assist in the release of the pilot held hostage by KKB led by Egianus Kogoya. (*)
