Indonesia Hosts the U17 World Cup: Keep Trust, Make Evidence
Indonesia got a second chance from FIFA. After failing to host the U20 World Cup, Indonesia is now entrusted with hosting the 2023 U17 World Cup.
The appointment of Indonesia as the host for the 2023 U17 World Cup was announced on the official FIFA website on Friday (23/6/2023) evening WIB.
Indonesia is not the only country mentioned in the announcement.
In the same release, FIFA also mentions other countries that will host various FIFA tournaments.
"The council also appointed Indonesia as the host for the 2023 U17 World Cup, Colombia as the host for the 2024 U20 Women's World Cup, Dominica as the host for the 2024 U17 Women's World Cup, and Uzbekistan as the host for the 2024 Futsal World Cup," said FIFA's official statement.
The appointment of Indonesia as the host for the 2023 U17 World Cup is a follow-up decision taken after FIFA withdrew its host status from Peru on April 3.
Peru, which was originally entrusted with hosting the 2023 U17 World Cup, was deemed unable to fulfill its commitment to complete the infrastructure needed to hold the tournament.
Therefore, FIFA, as the highest authority in world football, revoked Peru's status as the host for the 2023 U17 World Cup after discussing it with the government of the South American country.
Now, FIFA is handing over this trust to Indonesia, which has also previously gone through the drama of revoking host status.
Keep Trust, Make Evidence
Indonesia has also gone through the drama of revoking host status when preparing to hold another FIFA tournament, namely the 2023 U20 World Cup.
PSSI together with the local committee have made all the preparations for the success of the tournament which gave birth to many world soccer stars.
In fact, FIFA representatives have also come to Indonesia several times to carry out inspections and review the feasibility of the six stadiums being prepared to become match venues.
At the same time, the Indonesian U20 national team players continue to prepare so they can perform optimally and make Indonesian football fans proud.
However, a few months before the competition started, there were a number of rejections against one of the participants, namely Israel.
Two politicians, Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster and Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, issued statements opposing Israel's presence in the country even though they had signed the Host City agreement.
This caused the drawing agenda, which was originally scheduled to take place in Bali on March 31, 2023, to be cancelled.
FIFA officially revoked Indonesia's status as the host of the 2023 U20 World Cup even though PSSI through General Chair Erick Thohir had made several efforts to still be able to hold the tournament.
The revocation of Indonesia's status as the host has hit many parties, especially the athletes who have pinned big dreams on the 2023 U20 World Cup.
Not only that, all stakeholders involved, from traders at the stadium to hotel providers, were also affected.
In addition, the debate over Israel's refusal to be a participant in the 2023 U20 World Cup continues until it slowly disappears.
Currently, Indonesia, which had canceled hosting the U20 World Cup, has again won the trust of FIFA to host the 2023 U17 World Cup.
For Indonesia, this is an opportunity that should not be wasted.
Indonesia also cannot repeat the "fanfare" that could make FIFA revoke host status from Mother Earth's grasp.
PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir is also aware of this. According to him, it is important to maintain and prove FIFA's trust.
Erick Thohir said that the most important thing right now was to make the best possible preparations so that Indonesia could be a good host.
"Now the most important thing is how we prepare ourselves to be good hosts," said Erick Thohir in response to Indonesia's appointment as host for the 2023 U17 World Cup.
"However, we must be grateful for this because FIFA's trust in us is still high. We must protect and prove this," he added.
When Indonesia was canceled from hosting the 2023 U20 World Cup, Israel's rejection was thought to be the main factor.
Currently, the same thing will not happen in Indonesia's preparations to host the 2023 U17 World Cup.
This is because Israel is certain not to qualify for the 2023 U17 World Cup finals after they did not appear at the U17 European Cup.
In fact, the U17 European Cup is a qualifying event for UEFA members to appear in the 2023 U17 World Cup finals.
Regarding stadium infrastructure in the country, PSSI and its staff have repeatedly stated their readiness to hold tournaments according to the standards set by FIFA.
Indonesia Tuan Rumah Piala Dunia U17: Jaga Kepercayaan, Jadikan Pembuktian
Indonesia mendapat kesempatan kedua dari FIFA. Setelah gagal menjadi tuan rumah Piala Dunia U20, Indonesia kini dipercaya menggelar Piala Dunia U17 2023.
Penunjukan Indonesia sebagai tuan rumah Piala Dunia U17 2023 diumumkan di laman resmi FIFA pada Jumat (23/6/2023) malam WIB.
Indonesia bukan satu-satunya negara yang disebutkan dalam pengumuman tersebut.
Dalam rilis sama, FIFA juga menyebutkan negara-negara lain yang akan menjadi tuan rumah berbagai turnamen FIFA.
"Dewan juga menunjuk Indonesia sebagai tuan rumah Piala Dunia U17 2023, Kolombia sebagai tuan rumah Piala Dunia Wanita U20 2024, Dominika sebagai tuan rumah Piala Dunia Wanita U17 2024, dan Uzbekistan sebagai tuan rumah Piala Dunia Futsal 2024," demikian pernyataan resmi FIFA.
Adapun penunjukan Indonesia sebagai tuan rumah Piala Dunia U17 2023 merupakan keputusan susulan yang diambil setelah FIFA menarik status tuan rumah dari Peru pada 3 April lalu.
Peru yang semula dipercaya menjadi tuan rumah Piala Dunia U17 2023 dinilai tidak mampu memenuhi komitmen menyelesaikan infrastruktur yang dibutuhkan untuk menggelar turnamen.
Oleh karena itu, FIFA selaku pemegang otoritas tertinggi sepak bola dunia mencabut status Peru sebagai tuan rumah Piala Dunia U17 2023 setelah berdiskusi dengan pemerintah negara Amerika Selatan tersebut.
Kini, FIFA menyerahkan kepercayaan tersebut kepada Indonesia yang sebelumnya juga pernah melalui drama pencabutan status tuan rumah.
Jaga Kepercayaan, Jadikan Pembuktian
Indonesia juga pernah melalui drama pencabutan status tuan rumah ketika bersiap menggelar turnamen FIFA lainnya, yakni Piala Dunia U20 2023.
PSSI bersama panitia lokal telah melakukan segala persiapan untuk menyukseskan turnamen yang melahirkan banyak bintang sepak bola dunia itu.
Bahkan, perwakilan FIFA juga sudah beberapa kali datang ke Indonesia untuk melakukan inspeksi dan meninjau kelayakan enam stadion yang dipersiapkan menjadi venue pertandingan.
Pada saat bersamaan, para pemain timnas U20 Indonesia terus bersiap agar bisa tampil maksimal dan membanggakan pencinta sepak bola Tanah Air.
Namun, beberapa bulan sebelum kompetisi dimulai, muncul sejumlah penolakan terhadap salah satu peserta, yakni Israel.
Dua sosok politisi, Gubernur Bali I Wayan Koster dan Gubernur Jawa Tengah Ganjar Pranowo, mengeluarkan pernyataan-pernyataan yang menentang kehadiran Israel di Tanah Air walau telah menandatangani Host City agreement.
Hal itu membuat agenda drawing yang semula dijadwalkan berlangsung di Bali pada 31 Maret 2023 batal digelar.
FIFA secara resmi mencabut status Indonesia sebagai tuan rumah Piala Dunia U20 2023 meski PSSI melalui Ketua Umum Erick Thohir sudah melakukan beberapa upaya untuk tetap bisa menggelar turnamen.
Pencabutan status Indonesia sebagai tuan rumah membuat banyak pihak terpukul, terutama para atlet yang sudah menggantungkan mimpi besar pada ajang Piala Dunia U20 2023.
Tak hanya itu, semua stakeholder yang terlibat mulai dari pedagang di stadion sampai penyedia hotel pun terpengaruh.
Di samping itu, perdebatan soal penolakan Israel sebagai salah satu peserta Piala Dunia U20 2023 terus terjadi hingga perlahan menghilang.
Saat ini, Indonesia yang sempat batal menjadi tuan rumah Piala Dunia U20 kembali mendapatkan kepercayaan dari FIFA untuk menggelar Piala Dunia U17 2023.
Bagi Indonesia, ini menjadi kesempatan yang tidak boleh disia-siakan.
Indonesia juga tak boleh mengulangi "keriuhan" yang bisa membuat FIFA mencabut status tuan rumah dari genggaman Ibu Pertiwi.
Ketua Umum PSSI Erick Thohir pun menyadari hal tersebut. Menurut dia, penting untuk menjaga dan membuktikan kepercayaan FIFA.
Erick Thohir mengatakan bahwa hal terpenting saat ini adalah melakukan persiapan sebaik mungkin agar Indonesia bisa menjadi tuan rumah yang baik.
"Kini yang terpenting, bagaimana kita menyiapkan diri agar menjadi tuan rumah yang baik," kata Erick Thohir saat menanggapi penunjukan Indonesia sebagai tuan rumah Piala Dunia U17 2023.
"Bagaimanapun juga hal ini harus kita syukuri sebab kepercayaan FIFA kepada kita masih tinggi. Ini harus kita jaga dan buktikan," imbuhnya.
Ketika Indonesia batal menjadi tuan rumah Piala Dunia U20 2023, penolakan terhadap Israel diperkirakan menjadi faktor utama.
Saat ini, hal serupa tak akan terjadi dalam persiapan Indonesia sebagai tuan rumah Piala Dunia U17 2023.
Sebab, Israel sudah dipastikan tak lolos ke putaran final Piala Dunia U17 2023 setelah mereka tak ikut tampil pada Piala Eropa U17.
Padahal, Piala Eropa U17 merupakan ajang kualifikasi bagi para anggota UEFA untuk tampil pada putaran final Piala Dunia U17 2023
Terkait infrastruktur stadion Tanah Air, PSSI dan jajarannya telah berulang kali menyatakan kesiapan menggelar turnamen sesuai dengan standar yang telah ditetapkan FIFA.
