The sequel to Blade Runner 2049 will soon be worked on

The sequel to Blade Runner 2049 will soon be worked on - Game of Thrones director, Jeremy Podeswa, has signed on to direct the Blade Runner 2099 limited series which will air on Amazon Prime Video. Apart from acting as director, Podeswa will also serve as executive producer. In addition, this series will also be produced by Ridley Scott. Blade Runner 2099 will be a sequel to the film Blade Runner 2049.

Actually, Blade Runner 2099 has been in development since November 2021. But Amazon just announced the development of Blade Runner 2099 in February 2022. Unfortunately, no plot leaks have been shared about this series yet. As the title implies, Blade Runner 2099 will take place 50 years after Blade Runner 2049. It is not known which characters will be involved in the series. Looking at the timeline of the series, it is very likely that the characters Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) and K (Ryan Gosling) will not return.

For script matters, Blade Runner 2099 will be worked on by Silka Luisa and Michael Green. Luisa has recently had success with the Shining Girls series, while Michael Green is a writer for Blade Runner 2049. Considering that Blade Runner 2099 is still being supervised by Ridley Scott, the fans have high expectations. And with the cold hands of Jeremy Podeswa, this series is expected to end very well. With a director and writer already appointed, it's only a matter of time before the casting process begins.

It's still unknown when the Blade Runner 2099 series will go into production, but if nothing goes wrong, there are reports that production will begin later this year. If so, most likely the new Blade Runner 2099 will be released in early 2025 or late 2024.
