Jokowi Arrives, Broken Roads at Baleendah Market in Bandung Suddenly Smooth, Mountains of Garbage Disappear

The face of Baleendah Market, Bandung Regency, West Java, changed drastically when President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) arrived, Sunday (5/3/2023).

One of them is a damaged and muddy road, now suddenly asphalted.

However, indeed, only the path that will be traversed by President Jokowi is paved. While most of the other Baleendah Market tracks are lined with pebbles.

Based on Kompas.com monitoring, Baleendah Market also looks tidier than usual. Since the entrance gate, the vehicle parking looks neat.

The same goes for the entrance to Baleendah Market which no longer looks shabby.

Tumi (64), a basic food seller at the Baleendah Market, said that the path that Jokowi will be traversing has been paved since Saturday (4/3/2023) evening.

"Since yesterday evening it has been asphalted, some of which are also covered with gravel," he said when met at the location, Sunday.

For traders, Jokowi's arrival is highly anticipated because it brings its own wisdom. One of them is because some of the roads in the market are finally paved.

"Thank God, when the President came there was a lesson. Usually it was muddy, but now it has been given some asphalt and some gravel," he said.

The mountains of trash disappeared
A different thing can also be seen from the mountains of garbage at the landfill (TPS) in Baleendah Market which suddenly disappeared.

In fact, some time ago, waste in Baleendah Market often became a problem, both for traders and buyers.

As it turned out, since Sunday morning, the trash that used to pile up on the side of the road had been hauled into the back of a garbage truck.

A number of heavy equipment were also seen standing by behind the market.

Sumarni (46), a buyer and a resident of Baleendah Market, said that it is better to clean up the garbage regularly and not only when Jokowi arrives.

"Previously, trash was rarely transported there. So we kept piling it up. Plus, it smelled bad," he explained.

"If it's been cleaned, it's good. Yes, you shouldn't just clean it when Jokowi is there. On normal days, you also have to keep cleaning it," he explained. (Bandung Contributing Writer, M. Elgana Mubarokah | Editor Reni Susanti)

Ditambah baunya enggak enak," terang dia.

"Kalau udah dibersihin mah kan jadi enakeun. Ya, harusnya mah jangan pas ada Jokowi aja dibersihinnya. Hari-hari biasa juga harus terus dibersihkan," terangnya. (Penulis Kontributor Bandung, M. Elgana Mubarokah | Editor Reni Susanti)
