History Mahfud MD
Mahfud MD is an Indonesian politician, legal scholar, and former chief justice of the Indonesian Constitutional Court. He was born on May 13, 1957, in Sampang, East Java, Indonesia.
Mahfud MD received his undergraduate degree in law from Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in 1982. He then earned a Master of Laws degree from the University of Washington in the United States in 1990 and a Doctor of Philosophy in law from Satya Wacana Christian University in Salatiga, Indonesia, in 1998.
In 2003, Mahfud MD was appointed as the chief justice of the Indonesian Constitutional Court, a position he held until 2008. During his tenure, he was instrumental in strengthening the role of the court in the Indonesian legal system and was known for his efforts to promote judicial reform and transparency.
After leaving the Constitutional Court, Mahfud MD became involved in politics and was appointed as Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs in 2019. In this role, he oversees issues related to national security, law enforcement, and governance.
Mahfud MD is also a prolific writer and has authored several books on law, politics, and religion. He is considered one of Indonesia's leading legal scholars and has been recognized for his contributions to the development of Indonesian constitutional law.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mahfud M.D., S.H., S.U. (born in Sampang, Madura, East Java, May 13 1957; age 60 years) was the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court for the 2008-2011 period and a Constitutional Justice for the 2008-2013 period. Previously he was a member of the DPR and Minister of Defense in the National Unity Cabinet. He earned his Doctorate degree in 1993 from Gadjah Mada University. Before being appointed as Minister, he was a lecturer and Professor of Constitutional Law at the Indonesian Islamic University (UII), Yogyakarta.
