AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER WINS OSCAR, SUCCESS BIRTHDAY 13 YEARS AGO

Avatar: The Way of Water won its first trophy at the Oscars which was held on March 12, 2023 in Los Angeles local time. They won the Best Visual Effects category.
In this category, Avatar: The Way of Water stands apart from a number of other top films. They are All Quiet on the Western Front, The Batman, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Top Gun: Maverick.
Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon and Daniel Barrett took the stage to accept the award. This victory makes Avatar: The Way of Water repeat the success of the original film, Avatar (2009) which also took home the trophy in the same category.
Avatar (2009) at that time brought home 3 Oscars. Namely Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Visual Effects.
Meanwhile, Avatar: The Way of Water this year was nominated in 4 categories. In addition to Best Visual Effects which won, James Cameron's film was also nominated in the Best Picture, Best Production Design, and Best Sound categories.
Avatar: The Way of Water is told to take place 16 years after Avatar (2009). Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) lives entirely with the Omatikaya clan on Pandora.
After a number of humans arrived to colonize the planet, Jake took his family looking for a new home and arrived at the Metkayina clan. There they try to adapt to fight against the invaders.
