21 Customs and Excise Employees Proven to Violate IMEI Registration
The emergence of an open letter exposing corrupt practices from IMEI registration for cellphones and tablets has brought the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Ministry of Finance (DJBC Ministry of Finance) into the public spotlight.
The letter was made by a party on behalf of Millennial Customs from the TMP B Kualanamu Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office (KPPBC). The letter stated that there was a violation made by Customs officials in a structured and massive manner in the January-December 2022 period.
Responding to this, the Director of Communication and Guidance for DJBC Service Users of the Ministry of Finance Nirwala Dwi Heryanto said that his party consistently monitors and evaluates the implementation of business processes including IMEI registration.
He admitted, from the monitoring and evaluation results, it was found that there was a violation of IMEI registration. According to him, Customs and Excise had taken disciplinary action against employees who were proven to be involved in violations of IMEI registration at the DGCE vertical unit.
"Until now we have examined 25 employees with the results of 21 employees being recommended light-severe punishment," he told Kompas.com, quoted on Saturday (25/3/2023).
So for the findings of the violation, the DJBC of the Ministry of Finance took several steps for security.
First, increasing vigilance, especially in the supervision unit with the issuance of Information Note Number NI-17/BC.10/2022 dated 11 October 2022 to the DJBC Regional Offices regarding the increase in the volume of IMEI registration through passenger goods.
In addition, it sets the IMEI Registration Monitoring and Evaluation standard in INS-06/BC/2022 concerning Airport Monitoring and Evaluation.
Then, security measures are also carried out by improving the service system and supervision of IMEI registration with the E-Customs Declaration application.
This is done by embedding the automatic recognition feature and auto-filling the HKT brand and type by utilizing the TAC (Type Allocation Code) database in the E-Customs Declaration application, so that manipulation of HKT brands and types with different IMEIs can be minimized.
