KKB Attacks Security for Tarawih Prayers in Puncak Jaya, 2 Officers Fall, 1 Others Injured



The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) attacked TNI-Polri officers who were guarding the Tarawih prayers in Ilu District, Puncak Jaya Regency, Central Papua, Saturday (25/3/2023) evening. 

As a result, three personnel were shot. Two of them died after suffering gunshot wounds. 

"The shooting took place from an unknown person to members of the TNI-Polri who were carrying out security for the Tarawih prayer from behind the ILU district mosque," said Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri, via text message, Saturday. 

The victims who died were members of the Police Mobile Brigade Mesar Indey and members of the TNI Serda Risawar. Meanwhile Brigpol M Arif Hidayat suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh. 

Fakhiri explained, the incident began when Ilu Koramil personnel together with the Ilu Police conducted security for the Tarawih prayer starting at 19.30 WIT. Then at around 20.00 WIT, the KKB attacked resulting in gunfire. 

He could not confirm which group the attack was carried out from because the incident happened quickly.
