Qatar loses badly, Iran flies high in the World Cup
HOLIDAY NEWS – Iran climbed to the top of Group A - VL 3 of the 2026 World Cup after an impressive 4-1 win over Qatar.
As expected, Iran proactively attacked Qatar from the first minute of the match. The home team really needs a win to continue to maintain top position with Uzbekistan. However, the surprise occurred early when Qatar took the lead from the 17th minute.
Directly from the field, defender Lucas Mendes provided a very accurate long pass. The bait disturbed Iran's defense. It was Almoez Ali who seized the opportunity by using his speed to escape and finish well in a face-to-face situation.
After that, Iran had to increase the pressure on Qatar's goal. Their efforts finally paid off when the equalizer was scored at the end of the first half. From Omid Noorafkan's cross, main striker Sardar Azmoun shined with a high jump and an exemplary header.
Having the goal of eliminating their psychology, the more Iran plays, the better it gets. 3 minutes after the break, Sardar Azmoun put his name on the scoreboard again.
It was a rather ironic situation when the Qatar goalkeeper came out to catch the ball but tripped over his own teammate's leg and fell. Taking advantage of opportunities that fell from the sky, Sardar Azmoun easily scored a goal when the goal was still empty.
Sardar Azmoun ended his impressive competition day with another brilliant situation. In the 66th minute, the striker dribbled the ball at full speed straight into the middle before setting up Mohammed Mohebi to tap the ball in from close range.
