Google Introduces New Video Player Feature, Display Refresh
HOLIDAY NEWS - Google is rolling out new features for its cloud storage service, Google Drive, including an updated video player and interface refresh. This update comes after Google rolled out inventory reporting in Google Drive globally earlier this month.
This service comes with a new appearance that is in line with the Material Design 3 system from the technology company based in Mountain View, California, United States (US). The new display introduces dedicated buttons for fast forwarding and rewinding media, while playback speed adjustment options also get an upgrade.
According to Gadgets 360, the new media player in Google Drive, which was introduced in a Google blog post, features a new layout with a more modern look. Users can now fast forward or rewind videos at 15 second intervals thanks to a new dedicated button that appears next to the play/pause option. Additionally, playback speed and captions can be changed without having to delve into the media player settings.
According to the company, this feature was introduced to provide an online experience with Google Vids – an upcoming editor that leverages the Gemini large language model (LLMO) for video creation.
The new video player in Google Drive is in an extended rollout for accounts with Rapid Release domains and Google says it could take up to 15 days for the feature to be visible to all users.

Meanwhile, Scheduled Release domain accounts will get it starting November 18, with visibility expected up to three days after launch. This service is available to all Google Workspace customers, Individual Workspace Customers, and users with personal Google accounts.
In addition to the updated video player, Google recently introduced an updated Calendar view. It brings more modern buttons, dialogs and sidebars. Additionally, there is also an improved interface typography that uses specially designed Google typography. Users can now choose between light mode, dark mode, or the device's default theme option.
The changes are said to apply across the Google Calendar web experience, including the task list view.
