FIFA opens its voice regarding the controversy over Bahrain's second goal in the match vs Indonesia

HOLIDAY NEWS – The match between Bahrain and the Indonesian National Team which took place at the Bahrain National Stadium on Thursday (10/10/2024) became the focus of the world of football. Although the match was full of drama and questionable decisions, FIFA praise the quality of play displayed by both teams. With high tension throughout the match, both teams displayed their best actions until the final seconds of the match. 

Bahrain took the lead first through Mohamed Marhoon's goal in the first half, taking advantage of a free kick opportunity that was difficult for Maarten Paes, the Indonesian national team goalkeeper, to anticipate. However, the spirit of the Garuda squad did not die out. Nearing the end of the first half, Ragnar Oratmangoen scored the equalizer in the 45+3 minute, closing the first half with the score 1-1. 

Change of Match Direction in the Second Half

Entering the second half, the intensity of the match became increasingly heated. The Indonesian national team, which was previously under pressure, took the lead in the 74th minute through Rafael Struick's beautiful goal. A curling shot from inside the penalty box managed to break through the Bahrain goal, giving great hope to the Indonesian fans who were present at the stadium and those watching from home. 

However, this joy did not last long. When the match was nearing the end and Indonesia was predicted to win, Bahrain managed to equalize in extra time. Mohamed Marhoon was Bahrain's hero again, scoring the equalizer in the 90+9 minute after utilizing a cross from a tight angle. 

FIFA Gives Appreciation, Questions Still Remain

FIFA, as the governing body for world football, also provided a response to this match. Even though there was controversy at the end of the match, they still praised both teams for a competitive game full of dramatic action. In its official statement, FIFA highlighted how this match was able to entertain the audience and show the quality of both teams, even though Bahrain dominated possession at several crucial moments.
