- The Google research team published a new report warning of dangers related to the development of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The technology that has boomed since the emergence of ChatGPT by OpenAI comes with various benefits, but the risks are terrible.
Google researchers' report underscores the risk of a proliferation of false information on the internet. This is quite ironic, because Google is one of the technology giants most ambitious in developing AI.
In fact, Google's AI technology could be the most impactful, considering its user base through search engine services and the Android operating system.
The study, which has not been reviewed further, was seen by 404 Media. The findings were horrific. It is stated that the majority of generative AI users utilize this technology to blur the boundaries between factual and false information, through content in the form of images and videos spread on the internet.
The researchers also highlighted previously released public research on generative AI. From the research, it was found that 200 news articles misused generative AI.
"Human manipulation in spreading disinformation is a clear tactic of [AI] abuse in real life," the researchers said.
"Most fake news is created with the motivation to influence public opinion, enable scams or fraudulent activities, and gain profit," the report continued.
The problem is that the generative AI systems that are mushrooming today are easily accessible to everyone. At the same time, the regulations governing it are still very limited.
The conclusion written by Futurism based on this report, quoted Friday (5/7/2024), is that many people use generative AI to spread false information because it is very easy to make it.
At the same time, many people do not yet have the literacy to be critical of various information found on the internet. This could be said to be an internet disaster.
"When companies like Google embed AI in each of their products, risks like this will continue to occur," concluded the Futurism report.
