MOSCOW, - The US Department of Commerce on Thursday (20/6/2024) issued a ban on the use of software made by the Russian multinational security company, Kaspersky Lab, in the United States.
On Thursday, the US Department of Commerce issued new rules prohibiting information and communications technology and services (ICTS) transactions with Kaspersky Lab. The ban is effective from September 29. Washington DC also imposed new export restrictions on Kaspersky and blacklisted Kaspersky Lab, Kaspersky Group and Kaspersky Labs Limited for their alleged collaboration with Russian military and intelligence authorities.
This decision also drew a reaction from Kapsersky. The company said the ban would lead to an increase in cybercrime. "First of all, this decision will encourage cybercrime. "International cooperation among cyber security experts is necessary to effectively counter cyber threats, but currently it is still limited," said the Kaspersky press office in a statement to Sputnik, Friday (21/6/2024).
Additionally, US users and businesses will not be able to protect their devices from malware with Kaspersky's industry-leading technology. The efficacy of the Russian company's technology has been proven through independent testing.
"Our current customers in the US will face major challenges as they are now forced to look for replacements for technology they have relied on for years," the statement read again.
The antivirus company added that Kaspersky Lab will continue to protect the world from cyber threats and its business from actions aimed at damaging the company's reputation and commercial interests.
