-- Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menko Polhukam) Hadi Tjahjanto revealed that the most online gambling players were in West Java, with total transactions reaching IDR 3.8 trillion.
According to Hadi, this refers to data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).
"The one above is West Java. West Java has 535,644 perpetrators, and the transaction value is IDR 3.8 trillion," said Hadi at a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for PMK Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (25/6).
Responding to these findings, Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin confirmed that the West Java Provincial Government would seriously handle online gambling. West Java will coordinate with the central government to eradicate online gambling.
"I will mobilize all the resources and authority of the West Java Provincial Government to coordinate with the central government in eradicating online gambling," Bey said via short message to CNNIndonesia.com, Tuesday.
Bey explained that the problem of online gambling occurs in all provinces. According to him, all parties need to work together to eradicate this crime. Not only that, Bey will also form a task force to eradicate online gambling. The basis for forming the Task Force is based on Presidential Decree (Kepres) Number 21 of 2024 concerning efforts to eradicate online gambling. Google had previously detected that the West Java region had the most searches for keywords related to online gambling.
This was revealed in the 2023 Google Trends report based on Rising Queries. The report shows that keywords regarding online gambling dominated searches on Google Search last year.
Rising Queries are terms searched for with the entered keywords (or overall searches if no keywords were entered), which have the most significant volume growth in the queried time period.
In the list of the top 20 search queries, there are at least nine keywords related to online gambling. The report also shows that there will be an increase in the intensity of online gambling searches on Google during 2023.
One example is the keyword "to***2" which has experienced an increase in searches of up to 1,650 percent this year sitting in 10th place. When searching for this keyword, a list of online gambling and slot sites will immediately appear on the first page of the search.
Searches for the keyword "tot**2" have continued to increase since the end of last year. Searches for these keywords then peaked in the period 10 to 16 December 2023. From the search, it turns out that the region with the most searches for these keywords comes from West Java with 100 points. Then followed by Banten (78 points), DKI Jakarta (67 points), Lampung (65 points), Central Kalimantan (62 points), North Kalimantan (52), Jambi (46 points), West Papua (45 points), West Kalimantan ( 41 points), and Papua (39 points).
The numbers represent a drill-down based on the highest points on the chart for a specific region and time. A value of 100 indicates the term is at the peak of popularity. A value of 50 indicates a term with half as much popularity.
Previously, President Jokowi formed an Online Gambling Eradication Task Force led by Hadi Tjahjanto. The task force will work until December 31, 2024.
The formation of a task force responded to the increasingly widespread online gambling. Apart from spreading to government agencies, online gambling has also claimed lives.
"Yes, I specifically want to say, don't gamble, don't gamble, don't gamble, both offline and online," said Jokowi via video on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.

One of the steps to deal with online gambling, the government, through the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo), asked telecommunications service providers to cut off internet lines suspected of being used for online gambling, especially to and from Cambodia and Davao City in the Philippines.
This decision is contained in decision letter number B-1678/M.KOMINFO/PI.02.02/06/2024 which is addressed to telecommunications service providers for internet access gateway services (Network Access Point/NAP). The decision was signed by the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, on June 21 2024. There are three instructions from Budi Arie in the decision letter.
