This is the difference between hackers in the past vs. now

- As technology develops, the way black hat hackers play today compared to the hackers of the past has differences. Donny Koesmandarin Enterprise Group Manager for Indonesia at Kaspersky explained at least two things on the sidelines of the Kaspersky NEXT Media Launch event, Tuesday (21/5/2024), at the Pullman Hotel, Central Jakarta.
According to Donny, in the past hackers did not have a goal beyond just looking for a stage or establishing their existence. But now, black hat hackers are playing with strategies to get something like personal data.
"So do the others. If the malware can plant any agent inside and the data is taken out, that's it, I can sell this data on the dark web. So now their target is really numbers, not names. again," said Donny.
Furthermore, today's hackers no longer work alone. The more hackers recruited, the more things each member of the group can do. That way, the hacker group will get more output.
"One hacker (single hacker) still exists, but now it's a group. Like Lazarus, one example, yes, that's also a group. So he will be more specific. One group will certainly be more sophisticated than one person, right?" he continued.
Regarding Lazarus, Lazarus itself is a dangerous hacker group in the world which is believed to be based in North Korea. The talent of each hacker at Lazarus was so great that the FBI was even looking for one of the hackers who was a member there.
Lazarus or known as APT38 is an espionage hacker group that has been active since 2009. The group has targeted banks, financial institutions, casinos, cryptocurrency exchanges, SWIFT system endpoints, and ATMs in at least 38 countries around the world with sophisticated cross-platform attacks.

- Seiring perkembangan teknologi, cara main black hat hacker zaman sekarang dibandingkan hacker zaman dulu memiliki perbedaan. Donny Koesmandarin Enterprise Group Manager untuk Indonesia di Kaspersky memaparkan setidaknya dua hal di sela acara Kaspersky NEXT Media Launch, Selasa (21/5/2024), di Hotel Pullman Jakarta Pusat.
Menurut Donny, dulu para hacker tidak memiliki tujuan yang lebih dari sekedar mencari panggung atau mengukuhkan eksistensi. Namun sekarang, black hat hacker bermain dengan strategi untuk mendapatkan sesuatu seperti data pribadi.
"Begitu pun yang lain. Kalau dia bisa malware menanam satu agent apapun di dalam dan datanya di take out, udah deh, saya bisa saya bisa jual ini datanya di dark web. Jadi sekarang itu mereka targetnya bener-bener kepada eh angka bukan cari nama lagi," ujar Donny.
Selanjutnya, hacker di masa sekarang juga tak lagi bekerja sendirian. Semakin banyak hacker yang direkrut, maka banyak hal yang bisa dikerjakan oleh masing-masing anggota grup. Dengan begitu, lebih banyak pula output yang didapatkan oleh kelompok hacker itu.
"Satu hacker (hacker tunggal) masih ada lah, tapi sekarang sudah group. Kayak Lazarus, salah satu contoh ya, itu juga grup. Jadi dia akan lebih spesifik dengan. Satu kelompok tentunya akan lebih canggih daripada 1 orang, bukan?" lanjutnya.
Soal Lazarus, Lazarus sendiri merupakan kelompok hacker berbahaya di dunia yang dipercaya berbasis di Korea Utara. Saking besar ancaman dari talenta tiap hacker di Lazarus, FBI bahkan mencari salah satu hacker yang tergabung di sana.
Lazarus atau dikenal dengan APT38 adalah kelompok hacker spionase yang telah aktif sejak 2009. Kelompok ini telah menargetkan bank, lembaga keuangan, kasino, bursa mata uang kripto, titik akhir sistem SWIFT, dan ATM di setidaknya 38 negara di seluruh dunia dengan serangan lintas platform yang canggih.
