Google Gives Misguided Answers, CEO Says This?
- Google's AI Overview feature has been flooded with criticism. This is related to the service's response being misguided and out of context.
For example, Google's AI asked users to use non-toxic glue to solve the problem of cheese not sticking to pizza. The error also tarnished the reputation of Google's search engine, Search. The product is widely known and many people hope that Google's AI can bring benefits to information searches. Google boss Sundar Pichai opened his voice regarding the issue. He told The Verge that the error was still unsolved.
Even though he knows the AI feature is problematic, he remains confident that AI Overview will bring benefits in the future. "There are still errors in our system. But I cannot underestimate its benefits at the same time," he said, quoted from Futurism, Monday (27/5/2024).
He added Google has made progress on its AI systems. His party also continues to make improvements, although he does not deny that there are problems that have not been resolved.
"We've definitely made progress when we look at the factuality metrics year over year. We're all improving it, but it's not finished," explained Pichai.
AI consultant and SEO expert Britney Muller explains that people have expectations that AI is more accurate than traditional methods. However, it turns out that this fact is not true.
He also believes that Google is very risky in the AI industry. Because it competes with big players including the maker of ChatGPT, OpenAI.
"Google is playing a risky game by competing with Perplexity and OpenAI, when they could be developing AI for larger and more valuable uses outside of Search," he explained.
