- The list of world billionaires in 2024 has new faces. This year there are 2,781 billionaires in the world, 265 are newcomers to the elite list of rich people.
Reporting from Forbes, Wednesday (3/4/2024), these new faces include a fashion legend, an NBA entrepreneur and a very famous pop star. They collectively have wealth of USD 510 billion, or an average of USD 1.9 billion and come from 32 countries.
Of this list of new rich people, the largest number is of course from the United States with a total of 67 billion.
The richest among the new rich is the founder of the fast food chain Raising Cane's, Todd Graves, whose net worth is estimated at USD 9.1 billion or the equivalent of IDR 144 trillion.
Under the US, of course the largest number of world billionaires come from China. The number of new billionaires almost doubled compared to last year, to 31, despite problems in the Asian country.
The richest are Maggie Gu, Molly Miao, and Ren Xiaoqing. Each has wealth of around USD 4.2 billion.
Meanwhile, India added 25 new billionaires, including Renuka Jagtiani ($4.8 billion), chief executive of e-commerce conglomerate Landmark Group, founded by her late husband Micky Jagtiani, who died in May 2023.
Additionally, the richest newcomer is Andrea Pignataro from Italy. A former Salomon Brothers bond trader, he launched London-based financial software company ION Group in 1999 and grew it through major acquisitions into a major competitor to Bloomberg LP and FactSet. Pignataro, 53, is worth an estimated $27.5 billion, thanks to the ION Group and other companies that include the 1,280-acre Canouan Estate, a collection of luxury villas and hotels in the Caribbean paradise of St. Louis. The richest women joined the rankings this year, Sofia Högberg Schörling and her sister Märta Schörling Andreen. The two daughters of Swedish investment tycoon Melker Schörling, who died in late 2023, had an estimated net worth of $5.6 billion each. They are among 46 women who became billionaires over the past year.
On the other hand, the most famous newcomer is Taylor Swift with her record-breaking Eras Tour on five continents. Its revenue reached USD 1 billion.
The 34-year-old pop star is worth an estimated $1.1 billion, based on earnings from blockbuster tours, the value of his music catalog and his real estate portfolio.
Swift is the first musician to reach ten-figure status based solely on her songs and performances.
NBA legend and entrepreneur Earvin "Magic" Johnson is also new this year, with an estimated net worth of $1.2 billion, thanks to investments in professional sports teams, movie theaters, Starbucks franchises, real estate and healthcare. And French fashion designer Christian Louboutin, the man behind the iconic red-soled high heels, joins the list with a fortune of around $1.2 billion.
