How Google Predicts Floods 7 Days Before They Occur
- Google is developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology for flooding. Namely, it can be an early warning before a disaster occurs.
According to Google, its newest technology can predict floods that occur on river banks. Some cases can predict up to seven days before the incident, quoted from Engadget, Friday (22/03/2024).
The search engine giant trains machine learning models with all kinds of relevant data. Starting from history, river levels, altitude and terrain, and many other things.
Next, the technology will carry out hundreds of thousands of simulations at each location. Ultimately it will predict floods long before they happen.
Flood warnings are in place globally. This technology is recorded as providing accurate flood warnings in 80 countries with a total of 460 million people.
Google embeds this technology in Google Search and Maps. Apart from that, also through notifications that are present on Android devices and the company's Flood Hub website.
However, this flood warning capability does not completely solve the problem. For example, regarding the flood prediction deadline of 7 days later.
As Engadget notes, on average floods actually occur five days after they are predicted. But Google promises that its technology can now be developed to predict flooding zero to five days before the water rises.
Google will also develop it further to create better forecasting models. The company has been working with academic researchers to perfect its AI-based approach.

Cara Google Prediksi Banjir 7 Hari Sebelum Kejadian

Google juga akan mengembangkannya lebih lanjut untuk menciptakan model prakiraan yang lebih baik. Perusahaan telah bekerja sama dengan peneliti akademis menyempurnakan pendekatan berbasis AI.
Pada akhirnya diharapkan teknologi AI itu bisa menjadi platform yang bisa memprediksi banjir secara global yang menyeluruh.
