- Apple is in discussions about using Google's artificial intelligence (AI) technology, Gemini, on the iPhone.
Reuters, citing Bloomberg News, reported that Apple is also currently discussing with Microsoft to use an AI model made by OpenAI.
Apple is currently trying to develop its own AI features to power iOS 18 which will soon be rolling out for the iPhone. However, Apple seems to have chosen to find partners to provide generative AI features, AI features that can create images and writing via short commands.
Apple and Google, according to Bloomberg, quoted by Reuters, have not yet decided on the terms and brands they will use if they collaborate in the field of AI. The agreement between the two companies is expected to be announced as early as June, when Apple holds its annual Worldwide Developers Conference.
According to Reuters, Apple is falling behind in the development of generative AI which is now the latest trend in the technology industry. Microsoft and Google have now applied their respective AI generative technologies to various products they make.
Last month, Apple CEO Tim Cook said Apple would publish plans for using generative AI this year. He claims that Apple has made significant investments in the field of generative AI.
Apple and Google now have an agreement regarding the use of Google as the default search engine in Apple's browser called Safari.
However, this agreement is currently under the spotlight of law enforcement in the United States and other countries. Google is considered to have created a monopolistic ecosystem by paying billions of US dollars to Apple and other companies to ensure that their search engine is the default on the majority of cellphone and browser brands.
Google has also collaborated with Samsung to use generative AI technology in HP products made by Samsung, including the Galaxy S24 series.
