RI Flag Tanker Running Smoothly in the Red Sea, America and Allies Surprised Wow?
RI-flagged tanker crosses the Red Sea during widespread Houthi attacks
Riyadh - Two oil tankers, one of which has an Indonesian flag, continue to traverse the waters of the Red Sea, precisely through the Bab al-Mandab Strait, as tensions rise due to increasing Houthi attacks. The two ships returned to the Red Sea after previously diverting from that route.
As reported by Reuters, Friday (2/2/2024), the movements of the two tankers tracked by LSEG and Kpler were monitored in mid-January, almost a week after the United States (US) and Britain launched attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen. to respondattack on the Red Sea.
Ship tracking data quoted by Reuters shows that the two Aframax type tankers - oil tankers with a deadweight of 80,000 - 120,000 metric tons, had passed through the waters of the Bab al-Mandaab Strait on January 17 after previously diverting shipping from the Red Sea route.

Reuters identified the two tankers as the Indonesian-flagged Gamsunoro and the Marshall Islands-flagged Free Spirit tanker.
According to ship tracking data quoted by Reuters, the two tankers were said to be carrying heavy fuel cargoes and had previously stopped in Fujairah -- one of the world's largest fuel oil hubs -- in the United Arab Emirates.
The movement of the two tankers across the Red Sea sparked questions. It is known that most of the ships diverted their shipping routes due to increasing tensions in the Sea of Anger as increasing Houthi attacks targeted commercial ships in the strategic waterway.
The Reuters report said it was unclear what pushed the two tankers back into the Red Sea. But some industry analysts say that ships willing to continue plying the Red Sea route may be able to benefit from the current situation.
"It could be that some tanker owners are willing to pass through the Red Sea if the freight (costs) are right," said the head of research at Spain-based Medco Shipbrokers, Alberto Ayuso Martin.

The owners of the cargo and final destination of the ships were not immediately known. But according to a Reuters report, both tankers have signaled Saudi Arabian ports on the Red Sea in the past week.
Overall oil-laden tanker traffic passing through Bab al-Mandab, according to Mary Melton of analyst firm Vortexa, was recorded as 58 percent lower than the 2023 average for the January 13-17 period.
Meanwhile Reuters has tracked that at least 22 other oil tankers have been diverted or stopped since a warning was given by the US-led Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) in early January, for ships to avoid the Bab al-Mandab Strait for several days.

A total of 15 oil tankers chose to take the longer route around the Cape of Good Hope in both directions, which can take up to three weeks longer for voyages between Asia and Europe. Seven other ships, Reuters said, were still in the Gulf of Aden or in the northern part of the Red Sea.

Kapal Tanker Bendera RI Berjalan Mulus di Laut Merah, Amerika dan Sekutu Kaget Waw?
Kapal Tanker Berbendera RI Lintasi Laut Merah Saat Marak Serangan Houthi
